I don't know about you but on the official youtube channel I read it trailer...

and I don't know about you, but it's been advertised as opening cinematic since a month or so before it was shown. I'd consider that a mislabel on the localization team
Isn't the fact that your character is in Ishgard for the entire trailer a spoiler as well, since the entire MSQ pretty much hammers in the fact that Ishgard is closed off to us outsiders? SE just shouldn't make trailers for their expansion at all, too many spoilers the expansion is now spoiled.
I think you forgot the spoiler alert about the end of the main quest of ARR when they say that we are going to Ishgard that rejoin the Eorzean alliance.Isn't the fact that your character is in Ishgard for the entire trailer a spoiler as well, since the entire MSQ pretty much hammers in the fact that Ishgard is closed off to us outsiders? I play games for their story most of the time. Considering how most game openings tend to be timed to hype you up for the story, and often played after the intro; it makes no sense to skip them, imo.
The localization team has it correct I'd say. Trailer is usually the same thing as the opening (+ possible added text/etc) for japanese games.
In fact the opening having spoilers is precisely what makes them interesting for new players.

I don't understand you said from watching the end of an era trailer you were sold on the game. And I'm guessing that you've continued playing right up to the conclusion of the current storyline. This is true, and that's why I never watch those until after I beat the game.
However, Heavensward's "opening" is not just that - it is also supposed to serve as the primary trailer and crowd-puller for the game.
FF14 wasn't even on my radar until the "End of an Era" trailer was released. It sold me on the game.
However, if it was preceded by an ominous spoiler warning, I wouldn't have watched it, and likely never bought the game.
This is what so many of you fail to understand.
SpookyGhost is the only one who "gets it" so far.
Isn't it contradictory now to turn around and say that people would be turned off the game by spoilers when that's how you were drawn in?
Player
to be fair ARR doesn't contain the story that the spoilers in the End of an Era trailer showed. it does however have the spoilers that are shown in the Heavensward Cinematic(which has unfortunately been named a trailer on the FFXIV ARR youtube).I don't understand you said from watching the end of an era trailer you were sold on the game. And I'm guessing that you've continued playing right up to the conclusion of the current storyline.

I admit I only watched it once so I don't remember every word that came onscreen but all I'm getting at is that the entire trailer shows off quite a bit that is built up to in the MSQ that really any part of it could be spoiler and not just the five seconds of flashback of that "one moment," as mentioned by the OP.
The fact that you are asking this question when the answer is in the very post you are quoting is the kind of thing that goes to show that people don't even read or try to understand my posts.I don't understand you said from watching the end of an era trailer you were sold on the game. It is perplexing that posts like this are getting likes, though obviously it can be assumed that one or two people are going through the thread and liking every post that argues for their side.
