Have you ever seen any opening for any japanese game, like ever? They always contain tons of spoilers.I am not off the mark though, I am 100% correct in that putting spoilers in a trailer is a terrible move from a business standpoint, and the spoiler warning only makes it worse in that regard because it will turn away a good chunk of potential buyers.
You are all just looking at this from the player's perspective, repeating over and over that oh, there's a spoiler warning so it's okay! That's called missing the point. But it's okay, my message clearly wasn't for your ears anyway.
They are typically also quite meaningless for new players since they dont know the characters, or how to interpret whats being shown.
So Square Enix decided that the only people they wanted to see the eye catch for their expansion are people who've already beaten the 2.55 MSQ.People are disagreeing with you because you said something eminently silly.
Square Enix abundantly warned against the spoilers. If one decides to ignore the warning, it's their problem. If you want to "share" with your non-playing friends, Square Enix released a spoiler-free trailer months ago.
Interesting. Didn't know SE hated sales.
You literally couldn't play 1.0. New players have to play the 2.0 MSQs to access 3.0. They will already know the end of that story before they get to it. How is that not bad?

Why would new players that care for the story and spoilers, even watch an opening movie for an expansion in the first place? So Square Enix decided that the only people they wanted to see the eye catch for their expansion are people who've already beaten the 2.55 MSQ.

Expansion trailers are usually to hype you up for the new content in the game, whether you're coming into it fresh or are a vet. They're not supposed to turn people away from playing their original game to get to the expansion, or turn them away from watching the trailer completely because of spoilers. They didn't need to put the end of the 2.55 MSQ in there, it could've been purely Ishgard/Dravanian stuff. There was no need. At all. Other than them being lazy and not wanting to come up with actual, new things to showcase. The preview for the thing was better than the thing itself.

Well, how would the explain then showing the bit later in the trailer with Ul'dah? That whole plot is going to play an important role in Heavensward, it's the catalyst for Heavensward, its why the WoL heads north, why would it be shoved under the carpet?Expansion trailers are usually to hype you up for the new content in the game, whether you're coming into it fresh or are a vet. It's like complaining that the Deus Ex Mankind Divided trailer shows Adam's fate at the end of Human Revolution.
Those players that had it spoiled should take some personal responsibility. The warning was there. If they failed to heed that clear warning then the fault is theirs. The whole thread is just you white knighting for people that apparently don't know how to heed clear and concise warnings.

then show them this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68CNzwinqlg <- actual trailer and not the opening cinematic and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okypXypR80U <- tour of the expansion to get them hyped.
These already existed :P
This is true, and that's why I never watch those until after I beat the game.
However, Heavensward's "opening" is not just that - it is also supposed to serve as the primary trailer and crowd-puller for the game.
FF14 wasn't even on my radar until the "End of an Era" trailer was released. It sold me on the game.
However, if it was preceded by an ominous spoiler warning, I wouldn't have watched it, and likely never bought the game.
This is what so many of you fail to understand.
SpookyGhost is the only one who "gets it" so far.

Seriously?
They've been putting spoiler warnings about this reveal for weeks, dude.
You are the stereotypical complainer.
