They can do either, obviously. But more likely I see a recolor as a cash shop item as opposed to a quest that gives me a blue robotic unicorn horn.

I'd much prefer actually playing the game to get it as opposed to just buying it. Just buying it isn't nearly as fun or engaging.
I think that's my main issue with vanity DLC in general. At a point, you may as well just have a free to play doll up game with all the fancy clothes as DLC. You know, like Maple Story.

I don't understand everyone wanting items in the cash shop either. I'd rather earn it somehow in the game then just forking out $5-$10 for something. Plus, why does anyone want to pay MORE money when we already give them $15 a month for a sub. I play games for the pretty vanity, and I hate seeing everything stuck behind a pay wall. I even stopped playing for a while after they started that since it disgusted me. Only started playing again after 6 months of un-sub cause my friends begged me to come back to the static party.

Anyway, I feel like only certain items should be exclusive. Items like clothing that was just around in 1.0 that has no real significance, not sure why people are laying claim to it. It should be able to be made again. Event items I think it depends on the event, but the events could be redone in 2.0 with a same reward or recolor.only thing legacy people have claim to is their tattoo and their chocobo. Everything else should be free game as long as it is introduced into ARR appropriately.
