Because we're "heroes", and as far as we and the Scions know, the 'dragons' are the bad guys. The only other exception is Midgardsomnr, and he's essentially an imaginary friend that only we can see.

We can hardly see his face, either in the quest or in this screenshot, and he doesn't have any tatoo or scar, so it's hard to tell, they seem to have the same skin tone and are both elezens but that's not enough to say it's him or not. They seem to have the same mouth though.

Eorzea badly need's Ishgard's power to join with it against the empire and considering how uncaring whom the horde attacks its unlikely they would even stop with just Ishgards fall (they already attack anyone regardless anyway...) If Ishgard goes down, she would probably take with her the rest of Eorzea.

All the more reason to level up my lancer/dragoon; I wonder if you'll have different dialogues, if your a full-fledged dragoon.
