The other day on Reddit's FFXIV forums, someone was asking what plot speculations are going to occur to 2.55 and leading up to Heavensward. From what I gathered, people are talking about some betrayal and supposedly Yoshi-P says there is a reason why the Warrior of Light has a defeated look on his face as he approaches Ishgard. People have come up with a possible assassination of the Sultana or that the Scions will be killed off or betrayed. I thought of something much worse.
You're probably wondering what that has to do with Revenant's Toll? I started thinking about this as an absurd piece of humor, highly unlikely, but then I thought about it more, and am starting to think that it could be a good possibility. In Heavensward, what would be the point of Revenant's Toll? Why, in every patch, is this city being built up more and more, when more than likely players will start abandoning it when the expansion comes out?
I thought about it a little more and came to the realization that Revenant's Toll is just a big camp. There is no Grand Company and no governing body. This isn't Jeuno from FFXI. This place is growing but we haven't had any storyline involvement recently. There really isn't anything memorable here. Yes you have your token exchanges npcs and the Scion headquarters, but that's it. No other NPCs. No introduction of a governing body. Sure the Scions are here, but the Scions have no interaction with anything outside their Headquarters. It's just like Vesper Bay.
But wait, there is one group here. The group that is trying to build up this city and make it their second home. The people of Doma. They're rebuilding their lives and it's going well. But, we remember that FFXIV likes to pull things from FFVI. We had Ultros, Magitek Armor, the people of Doma. In Heavensward, we are seeing glimpses of the floating continent and the Waring Triad.
The Domans are here in Revenant's Toll. What could make the Warrior of Light have a defeated look? What could be seen as a great betrayal (of our expectations)? What would be a good reason to no longer invest in Revenant's Toll by the development team as everyone now migrates to the lands of Ishgard? Just like at the Waking Sands, the developers can change what npcs show up based on the story line. We don't interact with any of the Domans besides the random npc that pop up here and there. There are no important Doman npcs that have quests. If the Domans were removed, no quests would have to be altered.
Here is what I think is going to happen to the people of Revenant's Toll as we go to Heavensward.
