    This.

People make mistakes, understandable, recognizable. We all 'kupo' up every once in a while.
Own up to your mistake and apologize for it. Learn from your mistake and do it better the next time around.

Verbally abusing someone for making a mistake is just bad form and reflects on them, not the person making a mistake.
I rather kick the abuser from the group than a person whom made an honest mistake.

Problem is, when people make mistakes, it's often immediately interpreted as trolling by certain people and thus the "World of Darkness" turns into "World of Salt"

I like this. I have been playing since launch, and I recall how Qarn at the proper level was a hurdle, and how there was no rage in pugs, everyone wanted to clear it, so ppl were patient and helpful. Sad that 1 1/2 years later, we've as a community have lost that co-op mutual respect attitude or whatever.

Truth to be told, the helpful / reasonable sorts are still around and about, and you can find people willing to share the same goals. Just had two very nice runs with folks running low-level dungeons while a friend and I were helping out a third, who's starting to learn the ins and outs of playing PLD - a very good time all in all. And I've run into the same kind of people elsewhere, be it instances, the Tower or dungeons.

Unfortunately, even a few bad apples spread across so many servers (I'm on Excalibur) tend to spoil the whole lot of good that is out there. So, while I'm more optimistic - since I think FFXIV still has a better playerbase than most, in that respect - I understand how player relations can turn to a low ebb, especially when you factor in lack of trust (i.e., assuming that a mistake equals trolling or not giving others the benefit of doubt).
