Ironically, it was the other way around with FFXI. We had amazing Customer Support with helpful people on the end of the line due to EU regulations on Customer Service whereas NA had much less stringant regulations, so they were treated like dirt.
For those who can read French there is this really interesting post about the prices of games (shared to me by a friend).
Basically they do not sell a game only based on what it cost + profit margin, but on how much people are ready to pay for them. This is why you have expensive CE, for the hardcore fans, and 80% discounts for those who'd pay a few quids for a game they may never launch.
That being said it shouldn't excuse the fact that they are f*cking all of us who pay in pounds. If I can't get in in euros I won't get the physical collector's because it is not fair to have a 45% price increase when you switch currency. As far as I know my pay isn't 45% more that what it would be in the rest of EU so NOTHING justifies that much difference.
How long does writing a twitter post take? A minute? Two minutes? Apparently the "team" currently on twitter is not... shall we say; super effective? We are currently working on a post
More like they don't want to because they have absolutely no justification for it and don't want to be called out on their baloney. I have no intention of buying the physical CE for that price and would sooner buy the regular edition and save myself a fortune.
I urge anyone wishing to do the same to buy the EU (not UK) version instead. Don't fall for their tricks, and don't pay more than you should for the same product. There's no reason we should have to pay an extra 50% to everyone else in the EU and US, and anyone foolish enough to buy it at that price is only encouraging them to keep up this charade in months to come.
Will the codes still work? That is where my concern with doing the above is.I urge anyone wishing to do the same to buy the EU (not UK) version instead. Don't fall for their tricks, and don't pay more than you should for the same product. There's no reason we should have to pay an extra 50% to everyone else in the EU and US, and anyone foolish enough to buy it at that price is only encouraging them to keep up this charade in months to come.
I've said this in another post but I will say it again, conversion rates play absolutely zero part in the pricing, they will price it at what they think it will sell at.
If you really want to voice your complaint over the price, do NOT buy the physical CE. This is the same thing we deal with from companies like EA. They keep doing day one DLC, pre-order bonuses and everything else under the sun, people keep complaining but as they complain they are hitting the go to checkout button.
Hit them in the wallet, that is the only way to make a dent.
If they refuse to deliver to the UK they're breaking the laws on trade by forcing UK customers to pay extra to buy in Sterling. The EU will come down on them like a tonne of bricks.
