Supra is the joke in my opinion. It is just about money and not crafting, you dont have to HQ for them. Is about buying demateria if you dont have Desyth high enough.

I still love crafting but demateria has taken it down a notch. RNG is another thing that is too off that I mentioned in a previous post.
I actually stopped at Supra because no way i am spending all that time/money for mastercraft demimaterias. But I still think the amount of Moonstone is way too high, even in terms of seals, if I were to get all tools. It's nothing but a time sink. I wish we had to prove we are good at crafting by mastering a couple of difficult recipies (that don't requrie the same freaking rotation for every class and a bunch of sub-recipies to make the mats) instead of spamming dungeons for turn ins and seals.

That's not even counting the fact that crafting after 50 has no storyline/cutscenes, which was one of the things I loved the most about it. The Weaver's quests are still my favourite amongst all classes. Now there is 0 effort put into that, it's just pure grind with no context to it.

I think that's because you're now an artisan, you don't need to report to the guild master or be taught a lesson from them. You are among the best of the best (along the storylines anyway)
Maybe in the expansion, Talan and Gerolt will have more storyline for crafters to cover. I personally don't miss it, it's very time consuming running from place to place just to turn in quests.

I like that we "graduate" from the guild, but instead of just buying 20 of this and make 20 of that for no reason, I wish we had only a couple of more difficult crafts (even under certain special conditions like the ixali best tribes, or aspected recipies) that would require outside the box thinking with a story behind it. We could craft for notorious NPC, high ranking grand company leaders, Rowenna, Gerolt... I felt more of a crafter when I had to help some guy look presentable for the girl he loved than now where I just have to hand in stuff that has no purpose other then be a turn in to the same guy. Eorzea needed more back then than it does now.

I hear yea. My guess like everything else in this game moonstone prices will eventually come down or be easier to get. But yea they are not cheap and it does cause crafters to do stuff they may not want to do like fates and dungeons. But you can craft stuff to turn in for GC seals. I do see your point and it is a valid one.

Well, I admit that supra is not about the challenge and a minor annoyance at best..

But if you're gonna gear up your crafter with artisan's gear and artisan off hands, why is buying 3 mcDs such a problem for you? You're already spending 10mil+ on gear, it's just another 1m on top of that..

If you're a crafter, you need also be a merchant. That may not be your cup of tea, but that's just how it synergizes. Get craftin, make some money, and scoff at mcD prices

Could just farm the MCDs yourself. That's how I got most of mine. Sometimes the business aspect is knowing how to save money rather than make it .

I understand that self sufficiency is important to some people.. But I'd just rather make 5m a day and buy what I need instead of making every little thing myself to "save" money. Ultimately, time spent doing that cuts into your profits.

Getting moonstones is not a problem actually.. just takes some forethought and time.. I like to stockpile darksteel ore for a few days so I have about 3 full stacks or so.. I have plenty of spruce lumber from my desynthing. I can mine up basilisk eggs to make whetstones.. basically I'm buying the crystals and making miltia scythes till I got 20 moonstones. (y) throw in sbing pat gear at the same time.. I sometimes make gil while doing it.. I got a couple con +4 last time converting my last set. I love crafting cause I love making gil

Personally as someone who absolutely loves the self sufficiency in this game (well they're killing this aspect in 3.0), profit isn't part of my game because it wasn't what I play it for. Crafting for me is just "making stuff". The point is in the "making". Just like how some people would spend time in the game touring the zones and taking pictures with friends, instead of always gogogo roulette gogogo tomestone gogogo thisisn'tefficientuseoftime.

This game is balanced quite well in this aspect, in my opinion. A self-sufficient crafter who pays no mind to profit generally makes a profit naturally because in enjoying the crafting the time spent is naturally converted into things of value, and people who are more on the merchant side makes a huge profit which is exactly what they look for in crafting. Win-win situation.

But that melding RNG...24% success rate and 20 fails in a row...can get very, very annoying. /lol

The sweet redemption I find in that is the 1% HQ.

I'm in the make some profit some times catagory. I would rather buy up 99 basilisk eggs to turn to whetstones and make money than spend that time farming them (especially when the price is right).
I'm at artisan's level, bought the NQ artisan's gear over time, and finally crafted that 3* choco ramuh barding

Though, Whatever's mention of paying attention to the path you are on and making profit from it is what I like best about it.
