EVE and.......No, that is a good word for it. Most games that change from full sub to freemium options do so as a desperate grab for more money because they are bleeding subscriptions, or as an uninformed moneygrab which results in the same sub bleeding they likely wish to avoid.
I still cannot think of a single sub-based MMORPG that is not now worse off after adding freemium options to the extent that legalized RMT would.

EVE is sub based though and I don't see why it wouldn't qualify as an RPG, especially since it's the most "free" (as in you can do anything) RPG ever made.
But yes, it was built around PLEX unlike FFXIV.
Its also a successful sandbox MMO, something that flies in the face of what many companies consider realistic.
About as unlikely as a failing Sub based MMO closing doors for a year only to come back 'reborn', continuing to be subscription exclusive.
