I just got my lucis for my miner. I'm working on getting mine for my botanist now. I know how important seals are although I'm getting my moonstones from running Ixal Delivery. It's part of the game and I love my relics by the way. I'm toying with the idea of getting one for my WHM now.

I have been playing these games for almost 20 years and would never set up a group asking strangers to pass on something for me or join a group and ask others to pass. I just would not do it..ever. It means something to me earn what I get. You want to ask/request for it NP. I do not feel you are owed and answer, some people don't like confrontation are literally afraid you will bully them if they say no. Your time or reason are no more important than anyone else's. Even though I do not agree with you asking others to pass for you, I respect your right to ask. i would personally answer your request but I do not think any less of anyone who doesn't respond. The only people I think less of in all of this are those who feel they are more entitled to something than someone else for whatever reason.

Sadly the name calling started early on by calling people douche's and selfish. There is or was no need to get into name calling to have a discussion of this sort.

    16 Bombard Cores for these.

I think the only reason people seem to think the community if full of hateful people is because of the Duty Finder and perhaps Party Finder vs forming party's/groups of like minded people who you can get along with. The DF and PF introduce you to a variety of different type of players, giving a higher chance of finding those douche bags. While the chances of finding people who are like minded, I believe that perception eventually fades away and people are less likely to complain about the community in general. The DF and PF has allot of good that comes with being able to do content fast and reliable, but has its bad side to it as well, with trying to find like minded people the hardest part is finding those people and SE needs to find ways for FC and LS to be more important element to this game, but that my 2 cents on the subject.

This games community will be the downfall of the game?

It was this community that recently brought me to ffxiv!

Taking a moment to address this point as well, the moderation style you bring up is not often used because of our privacy policy. By noting that we took action against a post, it would indicate that we took action against an account, which is only information the owner of the account should be entitled to. As for posting more often, we do post when closing a thread or trying to correct the direction of a thread, as is being done here. However, we do not do this often since threads generally do well in staying on topic or die out before a GM response would be given.

Thank you for the direct response. I'll address the bold:

*Thank you for putting my personal information at the forefront of your obligations to me as a consumer. It's obviously important to Square Enix, and other companies should follow suit.

*I hope you change your policy. "Taking action" against an account is not the same as simply establishing a presence in the forum. That's all I was talking about. As a newer player and as I stated "from the outside looking in" there doesn't appear to be much intervention.

I've moderated before and I know how time consuming it is to actually read every single thread. I'm not suggesting that. I'm suggesting using a jpeg of a stop sign or the equivalent to convey there has been an intervention in response to comments that have been flagged after the determination that those comments are indeed in violation.

I also believe that reprimands should be expected to be given out, and everyone should be privy to see them. If someone will discontinue the use of the forum because they were warned, not "sanctioned" or "having action taken against them" then they are most likely not a member that would be constructive to said forum in the future.

But, I'm sure you folks at SE spent more than enough money in determining how your forum would be designed and moderated. The only reason I brought it up was because I actually played for a week or so before visiting this forum. Depending on the day of the week, someone who's considering the game before actually experiencing the in-game community might be out off. I certainly would've been.

Anyway, the long of the short is that this forum doesn't reflect the attitude of most in-game players from what I've experienced. Some days that's not true, but some days it's glaring. It's a problem you should be talking about imo. I hope you are. It seems like I'm always chiming in at other forums saying, "Actually the players are very friendly and the game is a blast." With that said, I'm sure other developers are having the same problems. Players are just more negative and vocal today.

Lastly, I wouldn't want to moderate in today's gaming communities. You have my empathy.

    Best regards, Stihl

I disagree, as a supervisor of people in the real world. "Calling someone out" publicly only leads to drama. A private message is a much more effective way of letting someone know they've crossed a line and are under a warning or watch, with a more general public message such as the one posted in this thread. This is especially important for the moderators here, since they are acting from a position of authority. I'm not into public shaming from anyone but peers.

This is honestly one of the biggest downsides to the lack of Tells in raids or dungeons. If someone is doing something incorrectly, or is being a huge jerk, I have no recourse but to drop a drama bomb in party chat or alliance chat unless I choose my words very carefully.

We were in a very toxic Syrcus Tower run yesterday. Lots of accusations of people not doing their jobs flying around due to multiple near wipes.

In Airman Leadership School once I became an NCO, one of the first things they drilled into our heads was never call people out publicly. It rarely has the desired effect. It leads to people feeling disrespected and people are much more likely to do what you request of them if they feel like they are respected.

I get what you're saying. But I'm not suggesting anyone be "called out", I'm suggesting people be warned for violations. As someone who supervises in real life, I'm sure you have to correct behavior all the time, it's a part of the job.

You don't even have to actually quote the violation. It can be anonymously done by removing the message altogether and replacing with a cut and paste standardized warning message.

This is standard protocol in almost every major gaming forum.
