"Abyssea is being released, yay!"Oh, I forgot some stuff:
"Wrath of the Lich King is being released, FFXI is done for."
*FFXI goes lolwut?*
"Aion is being released and that my friends is the end of FFXI"
*Aion goes down the crapper quicker than XI ever has.*
So in short, nothing can kill an MMO but itself -- APB died because it just wasn't that great and they didn't even attempt to bounce back, someone else is doing it for them.
*FFXI loses some players but still keeps over 100k subscribers*
The only thing I want from FFXI is a graphical update...
Peach Parfait/Khulan Angura on Gilgamesh
Ironicallly (though this depends entirely on one's perspective of the direction SE's taken XI in the past couple years), it seems the only one to "kill" XI in any sense is going to be SE lol.Oh, I forgot some stuff:

@OP-
No.

I don't think FFXIV has alot to fear from the Diablo or even the Warcraft RPG competition specifically.... at this point it's pretty much destined to turn into another niche XI-esque title (to the misfortune of many people who bought the game expecting otherwise).
However, this is a HUGE year for gaming in general with several excellent titles (i.e. everything besides maybe SWToR) being released. It will definitely keep new people from wanting to join this game in particular.
No. For most people FFXIV doesn't even exist. They have years to fix this, and they probably just consider us alpha testers because we're testing their new systems for them.
The game will get new previews, a new box, and people will forget that it was released as a heaping pile of 1/10th of the way digested food. [and yes, that was a reference to the only 10% of the game in beta]

No. Simple as that. People that want to play games with the depth of a mud puddle in a drought have plenty choices in the market already, without even having to wait for your beloved diablo.
Anyway. Another off topic thread trying to spread doom and gloom and publicizing another game that doesn't belong here. Reported.

Is diablo 3 offically in beta? I am not doubting you and I hope you are right but I see nothing saying it on the diablo 3 home page.
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!
I think the OP is asking the wrong questions. Iys not whether or not another game will ruin FFXIV's chances. To me its always been whether or not SE will ruin FFXIV. SE is SE's worst enemy. They just love to do things their way, and players be damned if they don't lap it up. I really want this game to succede, and I have been since launch in a perpetual state of Hope but not commitment to this game. And everytime the Devs do something great, it seems they have to do something disappointing. Its like for every 3 steps forward they take 2 steps back. Will the game eventually get to a place where I can say "This is my MMO addiction for the next 7-10 years"? Possibly. But the real question is can they do it before I decide I am tired of them making /facepalm decisions and all of my LS members leave me? Patch 1.18 lost me 5 LS mates. Ive beaten both the new dungeons multiple times, and now logging in is beginning to feel like a chore again. Something I make myself do in the hopes the next patch will magically fix my problems with the game. Am I crazy? Perhaps. But I feel I am out of options, and here is why:
1. Console/gamepad friendly
2. Deeper Storyline.
3. Heavy PvE
There is simply no other choice (aside from FFXI, been there done that). So I must cling to the hope that FFXIV will get better and better, eventually becoming a game I can be happy to play for the next 7-10 years, or hell even longer.
I think that when FFXIV gets a Year Anniversary they will close the servers.
