This will pretty much have to happen. The current incarnation moving to the 3.1 version can only really go 1 of 2 ways:
A) The entire 2.0 line is nerfed into the ground like you mentioned.
B) They make a kind of catch up quest for players, whereas players can do a quest(s) and after start on the 3.1 version
This also becomes very necessary for brand new players, and anyone wanting to play the new jobs in this expansion and any future expansion.
Different strokes for different folks. Some enjoy crafting, others do not. If you do not enjoy the Relic process and see it as pointless, don't do it. I think its a good idea to NOT be BiS because it is such a lengthy process. Instead it is something for the hardcore to get for bragging rights.
As per nerfing, it is inevitable and if anyone thinks otherwise they are fooling themselves. Parts will get easier as time progresses or people wont do them because there will no longer be the playerbase to do it (like FATE's for the Books, Atma grind, Light grind, etc)

I do not think that the relic is pointless. I like the idea of a job specific weapon. My gripe with the process is that for all the hard work that people put into it, the upgrade is marginal at best. Nor do I think that the relic should be BiS.Different strokes for different folks. Some enjoy crafting, others do not. If you do not enjoy the Relic process and see it as pointless, don't do it. If the relic is meant for the hardcore to brag about, then what about the casual player? That means that raiders have the raid weapon and the relic, but your average casual player has nothing.
I agree with you. It is going to get nerfed. People that don't believe or like that need to get over it. This is why option B of my previous post seems to be the most logical going forward to the expansion.

Best solution is new jobs have to do all the steps that we are doing with our current relics, if not the same content at least a very similar and time sinking, that way everyone keeps happy, you want the bad ass Dark Knight with his giant sword with lots of stats and being a zodiac and all that, well you have to work for it.
Not sure that this realistic. We don't know when we will unlock the DRK job, or any other of the new ones for that matter. If they unlock at 60, I cannot see it being required to complete the 50 relic before moving onto the 60 relic for a job we just unlocked at 60.Best solution is new jobs have to do all the steps that we are doing with our current relics, if not the same content at least a very similar and time sinking, that way everyone keeps happy, you want the bad ass Dark Knight with his giant sword with lots of stats and being a zodiac and all that, well you have to work for it.
Wish I would have seen this thread when I made my post.
My thought was that completing all of the 2.0 relic quests unlocks a "perk" for your relic. Completing all of the 3.0 quests unlocks another "perk" for your relic and so on and so on. Maybe a perk for one job could be "Double attack +1% or what-have-you.
New players can jump right into the 3.0 quest and earn an identical 3.0 weapon as everyone else (the only difference being no perk). If someone who earned their 3.0 relic wants the 2.0 perk, they can go through the 2.0 relic quests (atma, animus, novus, nexus, zodiac, etc.) and the perk would be transferred over to their 3.0 relic.
What this accomplishes? Every expansion - new players get to catch-up. Players who completed an entire expansion's worth of relic questlines are rewarded with a unique perk. Theoretically - several years down the road - someone could have a relic with 5 perks (if they completed all of the 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 relic quests).
Sounds like this is the crux of your question. If i'm mistaken, let me know. I'm casual and I see nothing wrong with getting the Rowena Tokens for a weapon. I did that so I can have raid gear while i slowly plug away at the end game. I think that is well within the realm of casual possible. Rather than make changes to what is currently in place. i think the addition of different weapons options will help. Like along with gear dropping from places like CT ST and WoD have weapons too. problem solved?
Yes and no. Something like this would require them to offer the UATs or equivalent in those raids or in other places. Not sure that they, the developers, would do this.Sounds like this is the crux of your question. If i'm mistaken, let me know. I like the idea of being able to get a job specific weapon. Reminds me of my EQ days.
One of the big things that myself and others that I have talked to in game don't like is that there seems to be a significant amount of work involved with completing the upgrade process from one stage to the next, but the upgrade seems to be marginal. Just seems that if a player would be required to put in two months worth of work to upgrade his/her weapon, that the upgrade should be worth the time invested into it.

The other problem is probably, Give me a reason to get a relic. for you, there should be some kind of incentive other than bragging rights to go through all the BS you have to go through to get a weapon that seems lackluster compared to something you can just walk over and pick up.
