I just had them attack mobs.
Garuda did about 280 per attack
Ifrit did about 190 per attack
My item lvl is 116.
The damage per attack does not matter. What matters is the total damage over time. Yes, ifrit's main ability only does around 190 per attack, but if you watch closely, there are multiple additional numbers showing up from his auto attack. When you add both the auto attack and his regular attack together, ifrit does about 20% more damage in the same amount of time because Garuda has no auto attack. This is why ifrit's damage output is higher.
Basically:
Garuda: 280 per attack
Ifrit: 190 per attack (ability) plus 145 per attack (auto attack) = 335 per attack
Numbers are not exact, but that is the main point

I wish they would remove or lower the Mp cost for summoning. It hurts your dps alot when they die and you need to resummon them. It hurts even more after being rez and having 0 Mp if you don't have stacks. You know they should do is make Summoning cost Tp instead.Unfortunately, summon switching is difficult to use without causing more damage to yourself from the massive mana cost to resummon. Contagion DPS increase alone is not enough to make up the difference in attack power from ifrit. The one thing that contagion can do is to make SMN MP pool go a little further since they do not have to recast DoT's as much, but this gain is very minimal. No matter how many times I try, Garuda nevers performs for me like Ifrit does.
The only time I will ever use Garuda is if there is frequent target switching, frequent melee knockback abilities, when I have to have magical pet damage (Cube in T11)(ifrit is physical damage), or a significant amount of AoE damage (cause contagion+Bane = love)

Even with his auto attack it did about 100 damage. That added up with his strike is about 290, the same amount of damage Garuda has.The damage per attack does not matter. What matters is the total damage over time. Yes, ifrit's main ability only does around 190 per attack, but if you watch closely, there are multiple additional numbers showing up from his auto attack. When you add both the auto attack and his regular attack together, ifrit does about 20% more damage in the same amount of time. This is why his damage output is higher.
If they did do this, then they would likely have to make the SMN pets abilities share cooldowns because switching out for AoE phases could be really powerful (though pretty micro intensive). But ya, the high mana cost is not really that necessary
There is a little bit more to take into account, like cast times of abilities and such. You will have a hard time seeing it unless you can use a parsing tool. But trust me, the damage difference IS there
You also need to take rouse and spur into account, which both buff ifrit to a greater extent than they buff garuda (due to ifrit's naturally higher attack power)

SMN pets abilities already share cooldown. Example: flame crush and contagion share the same action slot, so if one is on cooldown the other will be as well. The best way to tell which pet ability share the same cooldown is by the recast time.
Oh nice, I did not know that they shared one. then ya the MP cost for summons is entirely unnecessary

Yup, like I said they should make Summoning cost Tp instead. I know that tp is for weapon skills, but you are technically writing into a book to summon a creature from the aether plans soooooooo..........

Now you want Summoners to have carpal tunnel syndrome? Dont they have enough problems already?
