I rather liked hearing the ancient language, so I sure hope it's tied to the lore somehow :\

Hmm. . .now I'm curious. I don't actually remember the quest(s?) where we hear ancient language. Mind saving me the trip through the Journey?

As for a possible lore reason, the only thing coming to mind would be that before when we heard the other language it would have been Lahabrea or Elidibus talking, neither of whom are "of this world."

You see it a few times, an Ixal even speaks it in the Grid into. "O Mounful Voice of Creation..." etc. etc. However hearing it?

Let's see... the Echo of the Battle of Cartenau at LV14... The Toto-rak pre-boss cutscene... aaand the post-Praetorium Ascian gathering.

Funny enough, Nabriales speaks the ancient language in that last one, albeit with a completely different voice.

The blessing of light kept you and your fellow meddlers safe. It was that which prevented my kind from entering your domain. My kid, I say, though it held no power over the likes of Elidibus and Lahabrea. Being of this world, they could come and go as they please, while I could only look on... But no longer. Now that the seal is gone, I mean to act.

My bad. As I said, I was far from the inn at the time to re-watch. I'm a little more puzzled by the idea that the only thing protecting the Stones from Ascian invasion is the blessing on us. After all, none of the other Scions met Midgardsomr to have their blessings stripped.

No one else had the Blessing of Light though. He didn't take away our Echo (we may not Echo-trip after seeing Mid, yet, but we can still understand different languages, which is a hallmark of our Echo...and have gained the ability to sense Ascians, but whether that's a new Echo power or Mid's blessing I have no idea), just the Blessing...and we really don't know what the Blessing actually does (though, we can assume its some sort of Ascian shield based on how it kept them out of the Rising Stones and kept you safe in the Praetorium)

I'm sure the Crystals of Light were a key part of keeping the Blessing active...for obvious reasons. No one else had any once we collected the set (as far as we know) either, so assuming there was just one set we were the only one with the Blessing

Fernhalwes explained the language thing. Anyone with the Echo gains knowledge of languages, and our brains do the actual translating. So we may have lost the Echo, but we'd still have the knowledge previously gained from it.

Also, one thing is *really* bugging me: Minfilia suddenly gaining the ability to understand languages. Even in 2.1 when we first saw Elidibus we see she couldn't understand anything but her own tongue.

Moenbryda isn't really dead, she became an Ascian just like Lahabrea and Elidibus ( seriously it would be weird if in thousands of years and with some highly advanced civilizations we are the only one that managed to defeat an ascian ).

One thing I would like to know is how old are teh Ascians? From where are their origins? Prior to the fall of Allag or tied to it? Were they the Allag equivalent of the Warrior of light that where corrupted by the backlash from the Crystal Tower when it went super Nova? Were they tied into trying to stop Xande or are they, in some way, the cause of it?

How far back does the Ascians manipulation extend? How long have they maneuvering events to reach a point where they can openly appear in furtherance of their grand scheme?

Also the Echo, hearing languages in English, seeing things in the past. Echo is a TARDIS buff! :P

The impression I get is that they far predate the Allag. They seem to recall the time of "balance" when Zodiark, if not Hydaelyn as well, was present. I'm assuming they originally existed along side the gods in Eorzea (before the 1st Umbral) and developed their power of the echo, individually or collectively, as such to allow them to transcend death when the time came.

However, they could have been Allagan forebears.
