I know in a interview around the time 2.0 was comming out, they talked about how they planned to have some kind of similar live style event like what we had at the end of 1.0. Remember how every update dalamud would get bigger. It was a tiny star, and it gradually got bigger every update. Dalamud over several updates Then we started having strange weather events. Like we would get Aurora lights. Then we started seeing empire ships flying all over the place. Also lets not forget how the mobs went from bite-sized to bite your arm off size.. Then finally dalamud was hanging in the sky, with clouds swirling and lightning and everything. Sense we have so few updates before expansion I know we can't expect to see so many gradual changes as we did then. But I fully expect to see something going on with Ishgard over the next several updates. Maybe we'll see this shield around it between a couple patch's. Or see Midgarsormr sitting on the bridge, or maybe dragons flying around it, with the place on fire. Outside of any cutscenes that is.

An aether catalysts. It allows you to control a vast amount of aether. Hence Louisoix managed to control the summoning rite for the Twelve and shield us from Bahamut's attack. That gives you an idea of it's power.

And apparently there are a few such objects in the world.

Yep it looked like she was destroying the shield to me as well. Her destroying the shield then allows the Dragon to land on the bridge (assuming the shield has been there all along). That's my view on it anyway.

Yeah, that's probably what is going on, now that I've looked at it again, I hope the battle of Ishgard happens in the world, like an event.

To me it also looked like she was destroying the barrier, however, is she doing so to let the dragons into Ishgard? Or doing so to get to the Ascians controlling the bishop (i am assuming that the leader of Ishgards Theocracy is a bishop)?

Arch-Bishop Actually. The Bishops would be the heads of tempels while he is the head of The Church of Halone in it's entierty. Thus The Holy See of Ishgaurd.

We can't really say if she is destroying it or not, no one ever told that there was a shield around Ishgard so that could be her putting it up, or maybe Ishgard just put this shield when they felt that Niddhog was going to swarm the city once again.

Louisouix's staff head will prove a key piece in our Aetherial blade. Also, we may kill an Ascian.

On the Iceheart topic: given the framing and whatnot, I really can only see it as Iceheart erecting the barrier, not bringing it down. There's just no visible effect at all to start with, and it's after the flash of light that there's an obvious wavy barrier.

What I suspect is going on is this:

Iceheart's mission, assuming she is telling the truth, is reconciliation between Man and Dragon. She wants conflict to end, not for Ishgard to get blasted to powder. To date she's mostly tried to hinder Ishgard's ability to fight, but once the Dravanians begin their full-blown intended-as-the-killing-blow assault on Ishgard, the woman who was once Ysayle the Ishgardian realizes she has to intervene on Ishgard's behalf to avoid full blown genocide. So she helps erect the barrier to try and prevent Ishgard from getting mobbed from all sides, possibly necessitating the bridge assault (to break through the barrier at a fixed point).

This will also possibly serve as a moment of revelation for Iceheart, as she realizes her focus has been too narrow - there are just as many Dravanians willing to see the war to a terrible conclusion as there are Ishgardians. Many on both sides believe the war can only end in full-on genocide, and she realizes she must stop them both - likely recruiting us to help stop the war in the process.

I'm more looking forward to the Keeper of the Lake dungeon, personally. I want to know exactly what it is Iceheart learned, and just what Midgardsormr knows about Dravanian history.

And, of course, how it all ties into the Allagan-Meracydian conflict revealed in the Coils of Bahamut and Crystal Tower storylines. The current storyline has stopped about two steps short of outright saying the Dravanians are the descendants of the enslaved Meracydians who were stranded in Eorzea following the fall of Allag, and I'd like to learn exactly what happened with them after Allag's fall and what Ishgard did to start the conflict - especially as I suspect it'll appear small and petty to most people, but is something the once-Meracydians took as a prelude to enslavement and drove them to a war of extermination for their "freedom".

But this might also be off-base! I'm eager to see how much of it is right.
