He doesn't strip us of the Echo, though. Otherwise we'd be unable to understand the Ascians.

It's also interesting that

after being blessed by Midgardsormr, we can actually sense Ascians before they've revealed themselves. We've previously never been able to do so. I genuinely do believe that Hydaelyn has been weakened so much, that her blessings to us weren't even at their fullest potential.

Also, one thing is *really* bugging me: Minfilia suddenly gaining the ability to understand languages. Even in 2.1 when we first saw Elidibus we see she couldn't understand anything but her own tongue.

Cute minion aside I've been wondering why Midgardsormr is hanging out with us. We came to try and take him down and have been fighting his followers on behalf of Ishgard. Maybe he assumes we will find out eventually what the truth is and is satisfied to wait rather than tell us anything? He strips the blessing of light to test us? See if we can really do something without a Goddess behind us. It seems like Ishgard did something they are not telling anyone about and we are probably helping the wrong side. Ascians are involved somehow as they are in everything. Kinda looking forward to that in the expansion learning more about Ishgard history and who the heretics in Dravania really are. It seems at some point a civil war started when one group stopped worshiping their dragon gods possibly to worship some other god i guess secretly the Ascian god?

I noticed that, as well. I think they just used the wrong subtitle frame flag. The red on black frame suggested that he was speaking the ancient language, but he was clearly speaking "Eorzean" in the voiced cutscenes.

The same ones where he makes it clear that Moenbryda still can't understand him, you mean?

No, I suspect there's something else going on. Perhaps as simple as Minfilia becoming stronger in the Echo.

Now that you mention it, hearing him in English while having the "ancient language" subtitle frame and Moen not understanding is a frustrating break in delivery conventions from 2.0 - 2.45. I rather liked hearing the ancient language, so I sure hope it's tied to the lore somehow :\

Also possible. Seeing the Sahagin leader's ascension did make her more determined, but then, again, why no ancient vocals?
