    PLD Novus: Parry or DET?

I've already got my Novus and close to Nexus but I was wondering about the stats I put in. I enjoy endgame content and wish to perform at my best for it. I've put Acc as my main stat and Parry as my 2nd main. I had a discussion about it and 2 people said to me Parry is a shit Stat and that it should be DET over Parry any any.

Which is a more better stat for PLD to have? DET or Parry? Or doesn't it really matter? If you think either one of them then please in detail explain why you think so but also let's keep in mind for some people if their happy with Parry or DET let's keep that way and not start a flame war trying to insult the other person for going with that stat.

My reason for Parry was due to mitigation it gives me on Physical attacks but now I'm told T13 has alot of Magic based attacks.

DET is far superior to Parry. DET is always useful, parry is rarely useful. 3.3 DET = 1 STR. You also get the full stat bonus as you upgrade by capped Det and one other stat.

When people are pushing content under geared parry can be useful for progression. At this point in 2.5 is already useless.

Unless the "full bonus" is having more than 59 stat points on the sword, then I got it with Accuracy and Parry. As for the Shield... yeah, that one's dumb to get any bonus on.

But to the OP: Accuracy was a good first stat to put on. Accuracy's always a good idea to have on a weapon. It is far better to be over cap than under cap, especially for a Tank. As for DET vs. Parry, I'll say the same thing I always say: the game is constructed such that secondary stats barely matter so that people may choose whatever they want and not magically become useless to their party. So, all you need to do is answer this question: do you want to do a little more damage or do you want a little more mitigation?

Thank you both for your answers.

@Donjo yeah with Acc capped I'm a bit more free to do what I want with gear and Parry Vs DET don't bother me that much but the people who I seemed to have the discussion with made it seemed like you have Parry your shit.

@Sirtaint I always find parry to be handy for Physical attacks. Don't suppose you can go into more detail as to why it's more useful?

I'm currently trying to fight the entire notion that any Secondary Stat is "wasted" or "shit", because they're largely superfluous and have actually become less relevant with each iLvl jump.

I can also speak for Sir Taint as to why Det is "always useful". The gist of the matter is that something that adds damage to your attacks will always apply no matter what you're doing with it. Whether you're actively tanking an enemy or not, you'll be dealing more damage. Parry, conversely, has two major situations where it does nothing for you at all: if you're being attacked by magic and if you aren't tanking something. Thus, it can be said that Determination is more useful because it's always doing something to help you.

The ilvl jump has played no impact on useful secondary stats are. Also, Secondary stats are incredibly powerful if min/maxed properly.

I shall discuss this further in another thread, but this is false. Furthermore, there are only two situations in which min maxing the secondaries for damage actually has a significant effect(and by significant, I mean more than a 1-2% difference in effective main stat): Summoners, and a Tank moving from pure Parry to pure Damage.

BRD and Ninja can both get almost 1 Weapon damage by using i110 crafted pieces in their Best in slot as opposed to their i130 counterparts. Secondary stats do make a huge difference.

Both on paper and personal experience will tell you this is true.

Secondary Stats will never make a "huge" difference as long as Primary Stats are providing 90% or more of our effective main stat. It can make a difference, sure, but never a huge one.

Most classes it takes roughly 3 Determination to equal one Dex. I would consider those pretty close. There are definitely a lot of times where secondary stats will out weight main stats in gear choices. I would also consider a 10-30 DPS increase based on proper gearing towards your second stats is a "Huge" difference. Take a SPS Ninja vs a Crit/Det Ninja and you will see the difference easily.
