Am I the only one who feels sympathetic to the OP. Granted that OP is a tank and need to be up to date in gear, but when I was playing back in 2013 (as a SMN) my gear looked just as similar to OP and no one said anything until I was 50 (pointed out by the FC I joined at the time).

Sympathies aside, it is 2015 after all and a lot of people would know better. The many critiques and advise from the others in this forum is good. I also saw that you're in an FC. Are any of the members veterans who can help you out gear and accessory wise?

If there are newcomers in your FC, it might be a different experience if you mainly run content with them, where you'll fail and succeed as a group. It's more fun that way, rather than running with randoms with the slight fear of someone going off on you for a slight mistake, especially being a tank.

Just then instead of having DPS bark at you for not holding aggro, you might have healers diss you for not being tanky enough.

Well Tanks are pretty much only role that really needs to keep their gear updated when leveling if you want smooth runs, DPS/Healers can slack in gearing while leveling and you dont really notice it that much.

I dunno, this isn't 1998 anymore, there is this wonderful invention called the Internet that is... ACUTALLY REQUIRED to run the game.

I dunno, wouldn't you search for it? Or at least search for some basic informations? Well in that case that's expecting him to use Google to search information, same as searching forums for information...

If using Google is too hard, even harder than asking on Twitter to your 15 followers or asking on the forum (that less than 5% of the playerbase uses)... Couldn't he ask his FC? His friends? The /shout chat? Anybody he encountered in dungeons? Inspect people of his level?

OP said he wasn't a troll, but aside his new shield... WHICH IS A DZEMAEL DARKHOLD DROP. He got nothing new. NO AF Gear from Class quest, which is basically handed for free. No questing gear, be it main scenario or side quest. No Leve gear. No VENDOR GEAR. Still missing rings and wearing Lv.25 gear at Lv.48.

I'm now believing people who said he was a troll.

While leveling use STR accessories and put all your stat points into STR. This will help tremendously with enmity.

I spent a whole two weeks trying to find out a good allocation of stat points for pld while leveling it. No one could agree on anything as the game was at 2.2. What I concluded was for pre Shield Oath, stats should be about +1 Str for every +2 Vit. To balance it off, I used +Str accessories with Vit materia through lv 30. Around lv 40 mix Str and Vit accessories and add determination as a second mod to any pieces if/when possible.. As you reach or pass pass lv 45 move to all Vit with +Str +Determination mods. Once you get Shield Oath, reset stat points and go either all Vit or +5 Str and the rest in +Vit. While +Str will help early on, I wouldn't put everything into +Str. But I think that may have been the thought as to why PLD is described as being described as Str(sword oath)/Vit(shield Oath)/Dex (cant fully justify +1% to b/p rate)

I don't think anyone mentioned shield.. The only other reason I'd put stats into +Str early on is if you decide to use small shields for the higher block rate and +Str should slightly improve the amount blocked. Not by much but it helps. I'd stick with Kite shields as the middle of the road for now.

Just a slight correction there, WHM improved stoneskin is better, but PLD and SCH stone skin strength is the same 10%. But Stoneskin is useful to cast one on yourself whenever possible if you know big hits are coming, to Stoneskin the MT in 8 peep content helps thing along as well, or just to help out stoneskinning the party for things like coil. EG mega flare in t9 and giga flare in t13, PLD can SS both tanks whilst the healers SS the rest of the party.

Thanks for clarifying that, I don't really know much about Sch. But yeah those are those moments where Pld would want to be able to use Stoneskin.

We all were nice for 5 pages of advices, I even wrote some detailed advices myself, even a guide in a separate thread. OP didn't take any advice into account, some which only would have taken him 3 minutes to apply.

You can be a new player but take 30 seconds to look up stuff, that is, if you care for your teammates and don't want to be a dead burden being carried... I was a new player a month ago and did just fine off the bat.

What's worse, doing no effort and letting others carry you or doing the effort of looking up stuff? For some people it's called respect and being polite.

You may have been able to go half naked in dungeons, as a summoner, in 2013 when the game just relaunched. (some may say as a summoner you got zero impact anyway, I know, I carried a summoner friend from lv38 to 47 even into Dzemael last week, oh boy)

We're now 1 year after, there are PLENTY of guides and the only excuse one can come up with being half naked, as a tank with responsabilities is laziness or not giving a fuck about others.

Don't wrap up new players legitimately wanting to learn (I teach plenty of new players every day in my FC), noobs (who are just baddies in disguise) and lazy asses together

If you don't care if OP is a troll or an attention seeker or not, fine. I was just considering the option after 5 pages of kind advices. To some it doesn't matter if they feed the troll, but to me I feel insulted by it if it's true.

You may not care if you're being carried half naked doing no effort or if YOU have to carry that kind of 'players', but I sure don't like being exploited and taken for a kind idiot ^_^

^^^^^Wow.....I mean i read this and im wondering if you are not the troll. This is why people, especially newbies or people just struggling, find that asking for help is difficult. If this thread hurts your soul so much, why read and respond? I actually like that everyone is giving advice, hell I only tanked a little bit and Im enjoying getting same advice through this thread...Our community. Maybe he wanted to get feedback from the community, in an easy to read thread rather than use twitter or some search engine. But anyways, I appreciate you guys helping him because you also are helping me when I chose to go back to being a Tank. Also it helps as a DPS user to know that letting off a bit on attacking can help tank keep enmity.

Oh geez go to the mb buy rings etc or oh pshhh just get to 50 and run CT and ST.
Loool gear so easy to get now with tomes or roulettes gives easy exp.

They may be true and stuff the op should do but lets just take time and remember when capping mythology and getting darklight gear / vanya was the way to go in pre nerfed ak speed runs -> wp speed runs.
All the dungeons had ppl wearing mix matched gear, hell i even wore some caster rings till 50 cuz i didn't see any problems with healing dungeons in df.
No one said anything as blms wore other stuff too lol.
Not much stuff either on the mb as ppl were trying to get into crafting etc.

Maybe im lost, but I didn't read anything saying that he was refusing anyones advice. I actually saw him thank everyone for the advice. Ive read this thread 3 times to make sure i didn't miss anything. No where did OP say they were rejecting anyones advice and doing his own thing. And damn, this thread was posted little over 24 hours ago? WTF? Can he even have time to take in everything and adjust accordingly? Show me something that informs us that he is rejecting advice he got 24 hours ago? Some of you people....
