Vit should be primary stat for all your gear, and what you put all your bonus attribute points into until you're lvl 50 and ilvl110ish, then you can start subbing in some str accessories if you feel comfortable surviving without them. For pre-50 duties though, always make vit your main priority.

Also as others have said, keep up with your story/job quests, you'll need to finish storyline to unlock most post 50 content, and you get free ilvl50/55 gear from your job quest, along with unlocking access to your relic weapon.

    1. You are way undergear
    2. you need to understand that +1 upgrade is huge, and +3+5 is like god-like huge. as a new player I made this mistake earlier on too...I didn't want to spend 5k gil just to get "+1" than my FC told me that even +1 was huge upgrade.

Horrible advice, While you are leveling STR and WD should be your primary focus. Getting Str on your left side will also produce a good amount of VIT. You do not need VIT for early dungeons, if anything you need STR.

I leveled from 1 to 50 using quest rewards and doing only the required dungeon runs. Putting all points into VIT since I thought the item to reset stats was still at 10k seals. I only grinded FATEs to bypass the Lv.47 to 49 gap in storyline.

Never had any issue holding aggro or leveling on my own.

While your enmity generation will be unchallenged, your survivabilty plummets, healed for plenty of tanks that tried this strategy and I'm stuck keeping them targetted and finger on heal button, because their health plummets from full to >10% in less than 1 gcd. As Hyunckel said, if your gear is reasonably close to your current lvl while lvling, you shouldn't have any issues holding enmity, even against lvl sync'd dps.

I have to say there has been a lot of nice people giving long responses and offering help. Great on the community.

It sucks that when I look at this all I can think is this is a huge troll looking for attention. Just doing class quests gives you gear and needed skills which seem to be being avoided for no reason here.
A Tank in a dungeon also has nobody to role against them on tank gear if leveling in dungeons. Grand Companies give gear for seals if leveling in Fates. So on So forth...

In my opinion just a guy seeing how far he can get on the backs of other people trying hard to be kind and get things done and using a post that looks genuine to get attention.

Maybe I am wrong but to me this is shameful preying on a kind community.
I think it is unfair to the people that did those dungeon being forced to carry so hard and it seems very selfish.

It is 1 thing to be patient with somebody who is clearly trying and an other with somebody who doesn't care.

I promise you that it was never my intention to make people carry me through a dungeon. Every dungeon before Qarn I have been capable of easily clearing. Haukke Manor was difficult for me the first few times. Now I know where all the keys are, and we usually get through quickly without a single KO. I hold enmity well there and often receive commendations.

I decided to try Qarn because it was listed as level 35, and I had item level 38 sword, shield and top piece. Unfortunately, this proved far more difficult than I expected, and unlocked it into my low-level duty roulette. I got dropped back in on my very next DR.

Fortunately, it looks like it will only take a few more quests or so to fix the gear problem. I honestly appreciate everyone's advice.

I apologize to those in my parties who rightly expected better gear and a higher skill level. I will do my best to catch up so I will not burden others on my next run.

Especially in lower levels since Pld can use it early.
Just a slight correction there, WHM improved stoneskin is better, but PLD and SCH stone skin strength is the same 10%. But Stoneskin is useful to cast one on yourself whenever possible if you know big hits are coming, to Stoneskin the MT in 8 peep content helps thing along as well, or just to help out stoneskinning the party for things like coil. EG mega flare in t9 and giga flare in t13, PLD can SS both tanks whilst the healers SS the rest of the party.

Wooo, brother! I just saw your profile and and I am sorry but your gear is pitiful, almost irresponsible!
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if you are a super player in this game, if a DPS out gears you as a tank, you are in trouble.

You mention that you can't gear up due to the high prices in the market, but as many people have mentioned here, money is not an issue when most of your gear can be obtained through your main story quest and the rest, through, dungeons, raids and tomes.

Get your act together, at your level should be very easy, and then you'll see a dramatic change. Good luck!

Hello Kaes, I am leveling my Black Mage and I would like to share some simple tips with you:

1a. Replace your gear with level 45-50 gear. The trick to replacing them is to be smart and check out the armour merchants. I know that Dungeon gear -----> Crafted gear -----> npc gear, but in this case you realy need to atleast have level 45 gear or else you will keep losing agro. I will now put a summery on how you can replace your gear with the least effort.
1b. First do the level 45 Paladin quest, this quest will reward you with armour that fit the following item slots: Boots, Pants, Gloves and Headgear. Now that you finished the quest, you need to replace the remaning slots. Like I have said before, you should buy them from a:a NPC in the level 45 zone, check the Grand Company (Twin Adders, Maelstrom etc.) or ask someone to craft some armour for you.
1c. Replace the main hand weapon, you should try to always have a weapon that is the same level or 5 levels below you. The shield is fine for a level 47 Paladin.

Oke now that we are done with gearing up, lets go to rotation. This is the rotation that I have used while leveling and its possible that my rotation is not as effective as someone elses, but in the end its all to preference.

2a. This is the rotation that I have used while leveling. First you need to be aware that other players (aka dps) will not be able to read your mind, so they will not know which mobs you want to kill first. This is why alot of dps prefer to see the mobs marked with a number or sign.

2b. Ok, you have marked the mobs and you are ready to unleash the power of the Paladin. This is my rotation for a leveling Paladin:
    Shield Lob
    Flash
    Flash
    Fast Blade
    Savage Blade
    Rage of Halone
    Repeat

2c. Always try to open the fight with Shield lob and do not forget to rotate the Fast Blade -----> Savage Blade -----> Rage of Halone combo on the other mobs. This way will agro all the mobs and keep your agro on them. When a mob goes after another party member, this is when you should cast Provoke, then Shield Lob on them to regain agro.

With this the lesson has concluded.

Now for the video's and I know some players will disagree with me, I advice to not watch them. Its best to be suprised and adapt to the situation. But if you realy want to watch those guides, then I will share a link with you. According to my friends this player has the best guides for FFXIV:ARR. https://www.youtube.com/user/MTQcapture/videos

I hope, this will be of some help to you.

EDIT: When tanking use the Shield Oath buff and when you are off-tanking use Sword Oath buff.
