It's pretty much been acknowledged by all that this game is NOT an outrageous offender. By and large, anything skimpy on a woman is skimpy on a man, and anything covering up a man covers up a woman as well. It DOES have a few examples, though, such as the Coatees sets and, of course, the tired old Dragoon example, so it IS guilty, to a lesser degree.

Regardless, while there are some folks calling for action, the main point of this debate is to bring to light the double standards that people take for granted, and talk about whether they do alienate people, and whether they're okay. A surprising number of male (and sometimes female!) gamers casually accept that gaming is a men's world, and while women are welcome, they have to accept that games are made for men, and that women simply have to put up with the sometimes tame, sometimes outrageous sexism in the games.

This accepted "truth" is becoming less and less true as time passes. FFXIV (and FFXI before it) is a step in the right direction, but that doesn't render it free from criticism when it falls short! If devs are actually reading this thread, hopefully they'll acknowledge that we're saying they've done an admirable job, but there's still room for improvement.

Equipment designs of all sorts are welcome - the more the better! - but the same piece of equipment on a man shouldn't automatically transform into "sexy and revealing" when put on a woman.
