I feel like this thread somehow caught the attention of SE, for better or worse. The decision is up to them (and Japanese players, mostly).

Well, 99%+ of the armour in this game is more or less identical between the genders, and even those that aren't are not too bad. So if nothing changes, I'll be happy.

I was (I think we all were) commenting on the trope in general and the few exceptions that there are in this game.

I would question, too, whether we're ACTUALLY talking about a majority, here. Current statistics have the percentage of gamers who are female hovering around 48%.

I acknowlege that female gamers in general may not gravitate toward the same games as male gamers - but the Final Fantasy series has LONG been the types of games that a lot of girl gamers go for (just look at boy-band pretty boys like Cloud or Tidus!). While I haven't seen any statistics for this game in particular, I'd guess that FFXIV would be no exception. Therefore, it would not surprise me to learn that half, or even more than half, of FFXIV's players are female. If that is the case, then it is not a matter of the devs catering to the majority - it's a matter of the devs adhering to the traditional way to do it in the gaming industry.

Saying that games should cater to male fantasies because most gamers are male is becoming more and more doubtful every day.

In theory, it does - unless you want to stand against the whole concept of Democracy. I can understand it's not right for you - but majority wins, in the end. Especially in business-related activities, since it means more money.

That's called argumentum ad populum--as Aegis pointed out, considering what that method of debate has been used to justify,one might not wish to try such a tactic unless they want the unfortunate implications. It's called a logical fallacy for a reason.

We're mentioning those 3-4 sets because this thread is about gender dimorphism in gear in MMOs. Those 3-4 sets are the only examples in this game. And, yes, that's a small number and they aren't particularly egregious examples. No-one's taking pot shots at "SE saying OMG you are so sexist!" We're saying that these particular sets are examples of sexism and objectification.

Others are putting forward counter arguments, and you are just ranting.

Sometimes, if you want to move forward, you should just learn to take the small L and use what you gained as a platform. I can't take anyone in this thread seriously, because we're using FFXIV as an example when it's literally one of the few MMOs in a decade to do away with the trope.

I can. I know SWG was perfect in this particular regard. There were racial limitations to gear (Wookies could only wear certain Wookie-specific gear etc) but if you wanted to be a male Bothan in a gold fleshwrap bikini? Knock yourself out.
