It's about as out of place as being able to jump the same height as an Elezen, or bash someone's face in with the same force of a Roegadyn.
In other words, if you judge by real standards, yeah, sure, weird, but Eorzea is not real life.
Shush. You're ruining the image we've created to make the lesser beings believe we are harmless. We obviously do not do any of those things. We especially do not look up skirts constantly. It just so happens that skirts are really short in this world and its only a coincidence that most skirts are made by Lalafells.
So you're upset that the voice of lalafell males sometimes isn't realistic... in a fantasy game, with fantasy in it's title, where people can conjure up fireballs, dragons and unicorns exist, and a giant sentient crystal has chosen you to be her champion... because those are all sooo realisticWhen I'm waiting on que in Mor Dhona, I like to pass the time by finding random Lalafells and /poking them. Occasionally, when one of them turns around with a /surprise emote, I hear not a Lalafell, but instead a very masculine Highlander, and I'm all like "....what the hell was that?"
I asked someone in my FC who used to have a Lalafell with a deep voice as to why he chose it. His response in short was:
"I don't like squeaky voices, Lalafells aren't children."
My response:
"They aren't children but they should sound how they look."
I want to elaborate on this. Lalafells are very small, so they have smaller lungs, smaller mouths, and smaller wind pipes, therefore they should make a high-pitched sound. Allow me to use a couple of examples:
Dogs
Think about dogs of all sizes. Do little, ankle-biting poodles or chihuahuas make a bark anywhere near as deep as the barks of a labrador or a great dane? Nope. Are poodles and chihuahuas eternally puppies? Nope. Neither are lalafells.
Musical Instruments
Now think about someone about to blow into a small, little harmonica. Then a deep ass tuba sound comes out of it. Yeah, that's exactly how ridiculous deep-voiced lalafells are.
I want everyone's opinions on this though.

But wouldn't the fact that players can have deep voices make it canon ? I haven't heard the japanese version either but looks like some of the voices sound very deep, don't know about that-Only one problem; none of the english voice-overs (never listened to japanese version) for lalafells sound like that. Not even Teledji Adeledji sounds anywhere near that level. Some of the players' choice for lalafell voices could compete with Michael Clarke Duncan. Lalafells with deep voices are not canon.:/
But the thing is that I didn't talk about masculinity. A man can be emotional, femenine, childlish and yet have a deep voice. They also can be criminals of any kind. There are also some emotes that are clearly more vigorous. The /changepose of males are all pretty cool and not cutesy looking, with maybe the sitting one as an exception. A male warrior lalafell would hold his axe with one hand and put it over his shoulder like any highlander.Keep in mind that all other races do pretty much the same. Lalafells however have a very playful manner to their adulthood, even in some serious situations. Just take a look at the male lalafell emotes, and compare them to any other race. I would like for you to explain to me how someone who jumps up and down to wave to someone, who spins around in a circle when they are happy, who flaps their arms around like a bird with boneless wings is more masculine than a highlander who puts a lot of emphasis into displaying their natural vigor in their emotes.
I wish there would be more choices of emotes though, I would like a little less childlish emotes.
It wasn't my intention to suggest you wanted to remove the voices, but my wording was awful sorry ^^UYou guys... I'm not even hinting at the suggestion of removing it... All I'm saying it's a bit out of place

May you always walk under the light of the crystals.
Gameplay-wise yes, lore-wise no. Anything available in-game as an option or item is canon to gameplay, but that doesn't necessarily mean it has anything to do with the story; in-example primal horses have absolutely no lore behind them its just a cosmetic mount you can get.
I also want to point out that the common personality of Lalafells acts as a polar balance to all other races. Midlanders are your standard (read: boring) humans, Highlanders are more amazonian and athletic, you have the feline seekers and keepers that retain a lot of their instincts which plays a huge role in their personality, the ridiculously masculine roes (hellsguard females look like guys, wtf), and the playful Lalafell. It is your "cutesy fairy like race" as you would call it, but at the same time they still retain a lot of adult features; far from generic if you ask me. I think that the 4th voice (or 1st if you wanna sound young) suits the male perfectly. But the thing is that I didn't talk about masculinity. Yoshi-P is no taller than my fiancee' and he has a deep voice, how dare such a short man have a booming voice!?
Chibi people with deep voices?! What the?!... I have yet to find that and shock...
I'm divided with OP opinion and the others because I think all of them are right, and one thing is sure, just like happened with 'fang shui' topic... Some people would be sad if their deep voices would change, so SE won't change it.
I beg to differ.
I'd like to add that the said roegadyn has the girliest voice option (default highlander female voice). x')
And on topic: I actually have a male lalafell alt with an old man voice which I find hilarious. He's a little drunk with red puffy cheeks and bushy moustache. Nothing child-like about him.
