quest gear has always been *white* (aside from AF) meaning that you'll get ilv 50-59 gear, which can also be crafted. they are for new players, that haven't attained raid gear.
when you get to lv 60, your ilv130 gear will still be more than enough for any lv 60 content. Actually new tome/raid gear, will probably be ilv 140-155, and lv 60 dungeons will drop ilv110-120 gear.

I wouldn't count on that. I would suspect ilvl 130 gear will carry you to at most level 55. If it carries you all the way to 60, I'd be surprised.

I'm doubting i160 from quests, certainly not early on. It will be much higher than 50-59 at the start though. That's not surmise, I will guarantee it. Current crafted greens are i70 (easily available materials) i90 (harder materials), or i110 (screw you square! materials). I'm guessing here, but the quest whites/crafted will probably be closer to the i70-80 mark to start and then build up.

It won't happen in the first few quests, but i130 will probably carry you mid way through the first patch before being matched/eclipsed by dungeon greens and a little later, quest/crafted (white).

My bet is that the end game ilvl (tomestone gear, end of 3.0) will possibly sit around 180. That's a guess mind you. Obviously it'll go up as the patches go on.

Hopefully they will just keep the I level where it is currently because Ilvl 200 etc just seems silly. hell even I lvl 120 is silly. what next I lvl 400 in a years time.

They should just bring gear back down to par by saying that Ilvl 120 gear is equivellent to lvl 60 equip at I lvl 80 i.e lvl 60 required equip at Ilvl 80 ~ lvl 50 equip at I lvl 120.

if they keep raising i lvls it will just get out of hand and this way people will benefit from having done the content before the expansion.

Alternatively they could just scale up all current lvl 50 gear to lvl 60. but this may upset folks.

Ilvl is just a number that defies power level it has nothing to do with your character level.

SE has been pretty clear that character level and item level are two completely different things. I know that having level and ilvl be comparable may feel like a good idea, but when you have three tiers of endgame content (dungeons, casual raid, progression raid), they're going to diverge and it becomes hell for the developers to balance when character level increases.

I honestly can't see ilvls hitting 400 for a while. Endgame ilvl spanned 90-130 for 2.0 which started 10/2013. Lets say that the expansion will drop in April. That's only 40 ilvls over the course of 18 months of content. Even if they double the ilvl for endgame, that's 180 to start and 260 at the end of 3.0 in 2016.

To put in perspective wow which ff14 takes some inspiration from just had their 5th expansion and are just reaching ilvl 600, however in the expansion they just released they stat squished everything down to wotlk levels. FFXIV has quite away to go before people are doing like 500k dps and have over 1m hp. It won't be in the first expansion for sure.

Class Armor (50) -> FCoB (65) - Cut FCoB's lvl in half. And fit the rest as needed.

This is under the assumption that with the general stat increases that we will get from going from 50 to 60, the new i65 gear (likely new class armor or first round of dungeon drops) will be comparable to FCoB gear.
Thus making FCoB "old content", and removing the need for a new player to have to run through it in order to "be ready for the new early-endgame" and be unable to find a group.
So basically they halve the ilevels from every gear from 50 to FCoB right?

This kind of tinkering is what worries me about the expansion. What if they make it so that you can't equip Sol or Poe gear at 50?

    They wouldn't do that.

that's 1-3 star gear, which is only there, cause of lack of higher lv. when they increase cap to 60, there will be lv 50-59 gear, that you get from quests, and more 1-3star gear, with higher ilv, but you wont get those, or need those to lv to 60.
or are ppl thinking that lv 50-60 fate mobs, will be like FCoB trash? it will be easy to lv to 60, with 130 gear. and expansion dungeons certainly won't be harder than FCoB.
