...it's called collective punishment. It strengthens the sense of comradeship, of togetherness; heck, it encourages thinking and communication, it teaches responsibility - not only as an individual but as groups.

for a lot of players this will not strengthen the sense of comradeship, it will instead cause a rift that will piss off a lot of them.

As far as the "lul I troll DF just for the heck of it!": This is bollocks. This doesn't even happen in WoW with it's "oh sooo immature" community.
There might be super rare cases that do it, but these can simply be ignored.

I find it really worrying how many people aren't thinking critically here and blindly accept what the DEVs present them. This is an IDIOTIC and totally UNNECESSARY design decision that has numerous negative side effects and needs to get reverted ASAP.
