Those are total preorders and orders in the world, not subscriptions.
I could detail all of this here, but its 7:30 am, and im feeling lazy today, so ill direct you to http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ousing-and-gil
also, I wouldn't consider a source from cravegaming.com to be an end all primary source. I'm in college, and that source would not be allowed on a research paper.
Now, give me a SE direct source saying that, and ill concede the point gladly, but they avoid using the word subscriptions at all costs.

Let me google harder. Done. I'll take two cookies too.
Or just follow the Chinese source to Shanda, which is THE Chinese game publisher. Same deal. Market trends state that those subs will stick around for at least the first month. Afterward...well, longevity wasn't the question. A stupid statement about subs without facts was.
And attempting to use college politics in a gaming forum is amusing. These are same people that go on about Wikipedia being bad, including source material (No matter the source) there.
Still no sources on those. The rest of this argument is nothing but tin foil theories by someone who clearly has an agenda against the cash shop.

Sorry bud I been saying this way before the cash shop based on what I see and what Yoshi has said or shall we say what he hasnt said, since jan/feb 2014. The cash shop just proves that something is wrong with XIV. If the game is doing so well why would they need a cash shop after a little over a year after the game launches? What is Yoshi not telling players? Why has Yoshi not come out and given official subscription numbers? There are a lot of questions that are unanswered.
Believe as you will but until Yoshi comes out with the official subscription numbers that shows he has what he says he has I am inclined to believe the game isnt doing as great as he makes out.

Walt Disney IS frozen under the castle. John Lennon was also spotted drinking a beer with Tupac down in the Bahamas.
It's true. I swear.
Technically, for publicity and numbers, it usually does. Though I agree. The SE post there was from April this year, long before box sales in China and whatnot.
Not relevant, though Wikipedia has actually been shown to be better than most scientific articles. There's some studies out there about that too.

Quite agreeable, and on that tangent, if you have a link to the studies on that, I would be GEATLY fascinated. I'm a bit of a scholar, and those kinds of research papers are some of my favorite things to read.Walt Disney IS frozen under the castle. My numbers aren't based on a wonderful source, either. its an obfuscated earnings report from SE, with a small font number under the revenue section listed as "Revenue from subscriptions". not great to go by, but they really don't give us a lot to work from.
I'll have to dig up the study, it was from some time ago in class. EDIT: Here is the article. Plenty of sources on it. (From 08. I would assume the numbers only rose)Quite agreeable, and on that tangent, if you have a link to the studies on that, I would be GEATLY fascinated. Aside from quarterly sales reports, you really won't get an answer. Companies usually don't like to throw out that kind of thing, Blizzard is the only one I can remember that even comes close to giving out actual figures.

The first month doesn't count as a sub, it counts as a 30 day trial, as it is included in the purchase price. We are talking subscribers.Let me google harder. Done. I'll take two cookies too.

And Wikipedia is bad. I wouldn't quote from there either. im just using /doubt on your source calling 2 million box orders 2 million subscribers.
let me look at your source, and ill edit this. I appreciate the effort, though.
okay, your source says zero about subscribers. it says registered accounts, which is even worse than box orders, as you can register accounts completely free, in unlimited quantities. that's like saying that google has 2 billion paying customers, based on page hits.

You wanna talk about sources lets go back to the official numbers: nov 2013 600k subscriptions, jan/feb 500k subscriptions. Now Yoshi continues to not release officail subscription numbers since than, now lets take into account the cash shop, even without a source adding a cash shop plus with the last officail subscriptions the game isnt doing as hot as Yoshi says it is. The so call 2.5 mil players is most likely box sales, they definitly didnt keep every player that bought the game. So technically speaking XIV has a retention rate of 25% or lower. Now before you say well I get log in Q's just remember Yoshi can set the number on that lower or higher to make it look like the servers are full even if they are not.
