AlexiaKidd, I LOVE your solution... Not sure I'd go as far as changing them to "Traditional Classes" but the idea of adding unique traits/bonuses, that don't effect how you can add/change abilities, is a real nice idea... can you post something similar to my other thread about this?

    Q. You have also mentioned the possible introduction of traditional names. How do you see these new names fitting into the existing class system? Do you plan on using the new names as a guide to develop class uniqueness?

    A. Yoshida-san is between two possible plans at this time. The first idea is that the traditional names would be introduced as “higher” or “advanced” classes. The traditional classes would thus be something of a goal for players. The second idea is that the traditional names would be more of a subset or specialization within the existing classes.

Whatever change is put into effect needs to be right. He recognizes that he will not be able to change the system again after this, so whatever is put into place needs to work, and be able to be balanced, for years to come. Because of this his team is giving this issue a lot of thought prior to implementation.

Doubtfully the system will be taken apart that much after hearing this.

Traits however would remain exclusive to the class, so WAR would have Double attack exclusive, BLM would have traits that boost it's elemental nukes, DRG would have a Wyvern and so on so that the classes still had something unique about them.
The armory system is based on the concept of giving you the tools/classes to make your own role/job. You're asking for a system that just gives you the roles/jobs already and then a secondary feature to mix and match some of them. Hence why I said you were asking for them to destroy the armory system.

What is needed is more support from the armory system in the form of bonuses and labels to be able to create the roles we all seek.

I think the armory system is okay and fun.

They just need to tweak it a bit to make it more balanced maybe? Or something along those lines.

I see a lot of people complaining how they cant nuke cause there always healing and just random stuff like that.
If they fix some little things, the armory system will shine even more!

I'm for ether, but i guess this is just another thing people will fight about, you'll have people quit if they change it , but they also might have more people coming back to the game cuase if it, it can go both ways

    Honestly, I hope they do.

It really is a bad system at the moment. We have the bits and pieces of traditional classes just scattered around, and there are some people who love just having a patch-work character. I would rather have a defined class that had a role in a party and had tools to better help them in the role.

Also, it bothers me that weapons are classes. It's like a Red Mage being tied to a fencing sword. Although iconic, staves, daggers, and wands were also able to be equipped, and often better suited for different situations.

I would definitely vote for them to remove the classes as they are, and put in traditional classes. I think all this talk about "why not start off as a Gladiator and spec into being a Paladin" are silly. How about you just choose to play a paladin? If I wanted talent trees, I'd play Everquest 2, or WoW, or any of the other games that come from the Everquest school of thought.

Don't get me wrong. I like customizing my character just as much as the next person. But we need defined classes, and not all this "only choose the good abilities, so you can feel like you're whatever you want to be" stuff. If people actually looked at the system objectively, they would see that it isn't unique. It only seems this way because we have to select the abilities ourselves. Odds are, everyone will know that some abilities are better than others, and they'll only be using those.

As a side note, the other day I saw a low-rank Gladiator cast Shadowsear and one shot things. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

    Job = Role Specialist

The armory system is pretty much the best thing about this game for the most part, its just not completed yet.
And thats the problem. We desperately need role specialist. This mix and match stuff has gotten very old and boring. Too much freedom is a bad thing. I don't think they will get rid of the current armory system (though I'd be in heaven if they did). However, I do hope that they inact the classic jobs in the form of talent trees as suggested by Kurokikaze.

I have no problem if square puts in the current classes, but think they need to not get rid of the current armory system. It is one of defining features of the game which makes it different then its predecessor.

Now having more class restrictive spells and abilities, and maby guild mark traits and specific armor which pushes a class into more of a focused area I am all for.

Doing what happened in FFXI and making everything defined will outrage people when it turns into. WTF I can't solo on X anymore... well guess we can;t party there is no healers/tanks/bards on. Or LMFAO DRG SAM ONRY!!!!!!!

The armory system allows for you to play together even without the optimal setup, which is required for a game that wants to be casual and put a focus on party play.

Gifthorse let me tell you something. Who cares about you? I will play this game regardless of change. The only way I'll quit is what I typically do with ANY game. I beat it, or just grow tired of it.

Now I remember seeing a post about how a class is a "weapon's specialist" and I say fuck being limited to one damn weapon. What the hell was so damn wrong with wielding different weapons? I loved the fact that a Samurai's main weapon of choice was a Great Katana, but yet I could equip a Polearm or Bow for certain tasks. Let me wield a couple of axes on my Marauder again. Hell, give me a Great Sword for my Gladiator.

Amen, brother. Let me help you out here with this point about freedom! Let's take the United States Constitution!

Freedom of Speech is part of the 1st Amedment! NOW! Freedom HAS LIMITATIONS! What, you want an example? Here you go. It's so funny and now really old news, but...........You can't yell BOMB! on an airplane.

Now shut up, you diaper wearing adult babies. The Armoury system is too loose in the goose. There needs to be a little more limitations in there. If you can't handle that truth, then go back in the crib and suckle your bottle. Mommy will be in there soon to slap some baby powder on your bottom before you chafe.
