Well if wasn't as popular as people only the forums claims it to be they wouldn't have introduce it also by all the cheering during fan festable when announcing the purchasable vanity stuff it kind of goes against that lot of players don't want it mentality.why would SE risk losing many players due to this cash shop? lots of players are completely against this idea as they already pay for subscription.Limiting their choices isn't really helping. most players want to earn exclusive mounts and such in game while progressing or whatever. no point in selling it with real money, except of course more income for SE. many that I know already decided to quit because of this. hopefully SE can reconsider the cash shop even if it is already confirmed.

How aboutSE = Business
FFXIV = Revenue source
Cash shop = additional revenue
Good Revenue sources = additional funding
Additional funding = better content
Better content = more customers
more customers = more revenue
more revenue = happy developer
I understand most players are younger and don't fully understand the benefits of a profitable game/company, but the cash shop will benefit every player. Every time you see a $20 mount running around understand that the additional funding will trickle back into the game.
Keeping the model we signed up for = game retaining players
retaining subs at known profitable level = ensuring long term future of the game
Changing the model some of us invested time and money in when the game was a wreck, helping to keep the project alive = betrayal of the games most loyal supporters.

Yoshida has been hinting on this for a while now. Looks like it finally happened.
I'll stick for a while to see how this develops, but having items that should be obtainable through ingame means being sold for real cash is just part of the old DLC trend. Sadly there are enough people ready to open their wallets to justify this move. Good for SE.

Except it's not that simple. There's far more to it than just "revenue source"
Cash Shop = Additional Revenue, Loss of revenue from players subsciptions that leave because of it, Bad PR from Cash Shop, Potential drop in new players buying the game because of the cash shop.
It's risk reward. SE have determined that the money gained from the sales of the mounts and minions will be more than that loss from the players who leave or who don't just buy the game because of having a cash shop in a subscription game.
And better content from having more money? Unlikely. This game is highly successful and still doesn't have servers good enough to give everyone player housing. I know F2P games that give every player their own house. Even trial characters on other games, like Wildstar, can get a house. Revenue from the cash shop will likely go into the development of more items for the cash shop to sell.

This sums it up. A lot of people play this game and invested a lot of their gaming time because there is not a real cash shop... now they give us a cash shop, how nice...How about

You're making a lot of assumptions that they're gonna put that money back into the game and not directly into their pockets to keep.
Based on how much they already re-use things in this game, and the constant over-hype and under-delivery of content.... I'm doubting we're gonna see much change with a cash shop going in other than SE exec's getting nicer cars and houses..... and not houses like we got stuck with after how many months of "development" that were just rehashed FC houses..... They sure didnt put much of our subs into that R&D.

So wait if cash shop = less revenue because subsribers are leaving, but it is still hightly successful game ummm so which is it can't both exist? Don't get me wrong I not 100% behind cash shop once they cross the line where it actually effects game combat ect I'll be more onboard the cash shop hate.Except it's not that simple. Nicely put. This about sums it up really. You're making a lot of assumptions that they're gonna put that money back into the game and not directly into their pockets to keep.

I want, so bad, for them to add music to this game that is looped or the 1.0 style or some way there is music always playing no matter where i am that i want to suggest them to add an option or expansion/patch item in the cash shop that players can buy that adds music looped or layered into the game so that you can actually have music playing in dead empty lifeless zones.
I wouldn't mind if the 2.0 tracks are looped or the 1.0 tracks added, just anything to hear that will give the zones life and vibrance.
When i gather and there is no music i cant bear to use sprint, jump, or the elemental ward skills and get 100 shards in 20 minutes or so, but if i put on the two 1.0 version songs looped i never touch sprint, jump and half the time forget my elemental ward skills and can spend easily 1-2 hours gathering shards. Music is amazing, please let us have it back.
