Well for me this is the same as retainers. Not gonna spend a single cent on anything. I'll keep playing the game as is. I enjoy getting a vanity item from some other product I buy from SE but just for the vanity items. No. The product needs to be worth it. I enjoy the music, can't wait for the art book. The ingame items that are added to that are a nice extra but not the reason I'll buy them. Same goes for the premium livestream. I'll get the london one but not for the mog outfit. Just want to see the stuff and in a little way support SE. Cash shop. Nope, nope and nope.

I've talked about this over and over again when the extra retainers were first introduced.

But to be honest, I don't really feel bothered at all this time. because for me, cash shops were already implemented when the retainer thing started months ago.

And so the cash shop plague spreads on ffxiv. The only mmo I knew that didn't have it and it was one of the reasons I stayed in this game. Cash shops are the reason why I never touch f2p mmos and is much worse on sub ones. I guess they couldn't resist for long.

It won't happen overnight, it probably won't even happen in a year or 2. But the same thing that happened with wow's cash shop will happen.

Agree 100% with OP. I already hated that they made additional retainers (more space+market dominance) a thing, now we're getting even further into the disgusting pool of MMO cash shops.

In my eyes anyone who pays for anything on it is a giant tool.

What is this? I have played PLENTY of F2P games and the absolute worst those came with...is convenience(You can buy XP boost...so gamebreaking) so unless I'm somehow missing something gigantic, only a few minions and a mount is behind a paywall...and you guys can't just ignore and must unsub because of that? That's honestly pretty ridiculous.

How about this? Wait till the Cash Shop comes out, if there's nothing in there that is gamebreaking, don't quit but keep a close eye on Squenix from then on. If they go too far and start making it in a way that it becomes an 'I Win' button, THEN you can run off and I can absolutely agree with that.

TL;DR I'm not saying you guys shouldn't be angry, but unless the Cash Shop is actually aiming to be Pay to Win, there is absolutely no reason for this type of outrage as it's coming off more elitist and fearmongering than actually thinking with your heads.

Go look up WoW, one of the largest mmo's to date.

The game has a $15 a month sub, and you can buy a MAX level character that comes with max level professions in the cash shop. They also have the ability to release xp potions and valor point potions, in fact they are already available in the Chinese version and as soon as they can get away with it they will release them in the NA/EU version.

Did the game launch with a cash shop? no. Did they add max level characters and xp potions when they added the cash shop? no. The same thing that happened to wow is starting to happen now to FF.

How is this any different than buying the soundtrack for the minion? Or the plushie for the minion?

You get a soundtrack or a plushie send to your house, where you can touch it or hear it.
