I'd just like to say that it's really depressing to see some of the people here so happy to be ripped off.
I would think it should be enough for a sheep to be sheared once a month, without asking to be cut open and bled dry on top.

I've never seen these forums so full of doomsayer-prophets. And that's really saying something.
F2P games have proven to be financially successful, e.g. league of legends. If FF 14 were to go F2P, I am sure that it would do well.
Now, I suspect that the advent of this cash shop is a sign of biblical proportions. The end may indeed be upon us subscription players, in order to bring forth the coming of the F2P era.

PS3 limitations

Been thinking some more about this and I still feel really uneasy about it. I've not once thought about unsubbing to this game even through the Atma / Housing fiasco's and such. I guess i'll just see how things go in the next couple of months, but if it goes in the direction i'm thinking then I just won't be able to enjoy the game anymore.
There is no fairness involved. The entitlement of these threads is staggering. Its.... a.... business. Its not a not-for-profit whatever that is the becon of fairness to the world.... its a videogame designed to make the publisher of said game $$$MONEY$$$. They aren't here to be fair, its to make money. Stop all this whining and either play the game or don't. Its like those damn "Welp... I'm leaving" threads.... no one cares. With regards to the Odin mount, look at it this way:
At some point during the development process of either the mount or the trial the question must have been raised - Do we make this a drop, similar to the Extreme Primal mounts? Or do we put it into a cash shop?
This question WILL have come up during the development process. They have clearly chosen the route that will yield them money as opposed to the more fairer for all option.

Last time I checked this 'business' was already making money, from monthly subscription fee's. Maintaining a good relationship with customers is vital to any business, and is what stops said customer from taking their business elsewhere, in which case said business would be losing '$$MONEY$$'There is no fairness involved. Final Fantasy XIV is not the only MMO on the market, not by a long shot. SE are walking a thin line on this one.

And last I checked Final Fantasy XIV makes so much money it helped Square Enix turn around $130m loses into $40m profit in 1 year. It's greed. Plain and simple. Slepnir was going to be a drop from Odin, very likely. They decided to cut it out of the game and sell it on the shop for more money.Last time I checked this 'business' was already making money, from monthly subscription fee's. It's amusing that people always paint the most crudest picture of a corporation when talking about things like this. Too many movies and marxist novels I suspect.

Well, greed and a certain amount of arrogance I think, which is natural when you have something successful on your hands. That's why it's important for the community to voice it's concern when bad decisions are made. Of course your wallet is your best voice, but hopefully it doesn't have to come to that.

There's so much I love about this post. I'm not sure what my favorite part is. It's either when you stood up and yelled "COMMUNIST!", or when you demanded that he explain why a corporation would want to make more money when it's already making money.Last time I checked this 'business' was already making money, from monthly subscription fee's. This. This is what keeps me coming back to the forums.
