Actually, Wal-Mart's whole thing is "value" which part of making people believe a product is good. People actively decide they want something of lesser quality for a much lesser price.

The problem is, people are feeling that the cash shop is messing with XIV's "value" to them.

It's called "double dipping". We pay a subscription fee for ongoing development and content. F2P games charge for cosmetic and minor boosts (see, the highly-successful Guild Wars 2 model).

People who will defend games they like regardless of flaws baffle me. The fact that this cash-shop garbage is *already* taking away from content we would have received is somehow lost on you? The "I have yet to hear any logical argument" statement just tells me you haven't been listening.

Because they already made a profit with my initial payment purchase to acquirer the game and the continue payment of a monthly subscription.
So I expect everything that the developers add to the game be available to everyone at no extra charge bar from full game expansion packs.
This analogy may be far fetched, but I'm a print maker. If I make a limited edition of 100 prints and sell em at $600 to print collectors, and a year or two later make that same edition and sell them cheaper for the sake of profit. Do you think those first collectors are going to be happy that I just cheapen out their prints. This is what I feel that this bull crap is going to do the the game. Those defending this move all say it's just 'vanity items...optional service..don't have to buy...' All I can say is CAPCOM... you'll can figure out the rest.

The same argument can be applied to the game itself, if you don't like the direction a subscription based game is heading towards, don't subscribe to that game, it's that simple. The cash shop is simply another questionable decision in the long line of other questionable decisions that eventually turned into big deal breakers for people, housing being one of the major concerns since it's addition to the game.

Wouldn't be surprised if they started pumping out cash shop stuff for housing either, I mean it's just cosmetic after all right, what's $30 for a guaranteed large plot. What about vanity relic skins so you can glamour any relic step into your Nexus and beyond, or the heavily request invisible weapons for Monks so you can punch with your fists only, that's just vanity too after all, get yours cheap today only $10 each.

So much butthurt in these posts. This is the same as blizzards model,IE cosmetic stuff, mounts, minions etc.they have stated theres no p2w.its a business, they are here to make money,if they make money they spend more on development.to suddenly shriek that the sky if falling is both childish and immature. i dont like it but as long as it does not affect gameplay they i dont give a

My fear is that they're going to end up doing what SW:TOR did with the cash shop. Not only does SW:TOR's cash shop have exclusive content unlock(like actual STORY missions that can only be bought through the cash shop), SW:TOR also spends over half of their development time on creating items for their cash shop. Major patches include something like one flash point(which is called a dungeon in FF14) and fifty new nifty cash shop items. Most patches are only cash shop items and a few bug fixes. SW:TOR didn't start that way. It took awhile for them to get to that point.

That's EA talking. You shouldn't be surprised. EA is nothing but a giant cash grab anyway.

    Boy is that an understatement...
I'll admit to being pretty OK with cash shops, but if it ever gets to the point of SW:TOR's, you quit.
Let me tell you my precise point for being annoyed with any MMO: "Goody Bags." Those containers you buy that contain random loot.
    Buy.
    with real money.
SW:TOR has almost as many of those as the pokemon TCG has booster sets. It's nightmarish.

Square Enix hasn't exactly earned the trust that they're not going to abuse this, either. There's several examples, just in the past few years, of them overloading on DLC and cash-grabs (Lightning being removed for DLC in XIII-2 and huge chunks of content in LR:FFXIII... and we'll just not discuss the travesty of All the Bravest). They're not EA by a long shot, but they're hardly above reproach or deserving of this unquestioning trust.
