The need to set up filters or macros at all suggests playing as a healer is more complex than tank.

Yes! That'd be great. Aren't we a part after all? You attack one of us, you attack us all.I keep wishing they'd change it so that any mobs aggroed by your party (whether it was you or not) would show up in the engaged enemys list. It still wouldn't help with the tank's initial pull, but would certainly make the rest of the fight easier, especially for DPS classes.
They're the same filters I use for every class so... no.
hm. well while that is nice and all, there could be issues with this. it would be fine to place the enemies in your list of enemies. however, i would suggest those enemies not actually be engaged. like their enmity icon could not be displayed or could be grey.I keep wishing they'd change it so that any mobs aggroed by your party (whether it was you or not) would show up in the engaged enemys list. why could this be an issue? because of sleep. if you have a BLM in the group utilizes Sleep, then this can be greatly beneficial to the healer. what happens is that if the BLM can sleep those enemies before the healer has to heal the tank. the healer won't engage those enemies. and therefore not induce any enmity on those enemies. which in turn helps the tank too.

I, as a longtime MMO player, who don't own any console, and had started using a controller only last year because of lego games, I assure you OP, this game was meant to be played with a controller. I obviously don't speak on behalf of anybody, but as a PC player I prefer using a controller over m/k. I occasionally have to use the mouse when on DPS because the tab cycling is so annoying, esp when I forget I have filters set up, but my keyboard's purpose now is mostly for chat :P
as for healing, I only got to party up until haukke, so I can't say it's not gonna hurt in higher dungeons, but I don't know, switching between 2 hotbars wasn't much of a task with practice. I eventually learned to part-time DPS too with the right set-up, and I'm not using any macros (though it might help improve my skillz)

I never said it wasn't. were you referring to this? it was followed by this: let me emphasize that, I've been playing MMOs with m/k since 2003, I don't own any console...yet I play this game with a controller because it's fantastic. let's just say each mode has its own challenges but I can deal better using a controller than m/k. ofc, to each his/her own.
Not sure on the PC. But on ps3/4 in the action and command menu there is a couple of targeting commands which only target enemies. Set to the left and right button on Dpad makes targeting for DPS nice and easy.

on PC, even if I'm on the gamepad/controller I can use the mouse to click on the enemy/party, now my default target is on "others" and sometimes, like during hunts when there are a ton of other players around me, I forget to set my target to "enemy" only, so what happens is for a few seconds I find myself cycling through these people, which is annoying but it's obv my fault, and my occasional solution is to use the mouse and click on that goddamn mark. I'm pretty aware how convenient the dpad is, but I'm not a huge fan of tab-targeting/cycling, that's just me![]()
Fair enough, everyone has their own preferred style. I'd be tempted to use mouse for PVE healing as I keep forgetting the target "friends" only filter, but I do so little healing in PVE that it doesn't seem worth the hassle of having to juggle mouse as well as controller and keyboard.
