For games like this and MH I always make a female character... Male characters that look like me are very generic and used by so many people... Plus you spend hours looking at the backside of your character... I'd prefer to look at something shapely

I choose depends on how I like gender looks like, for some games I'll choose to be a female
Then there's this game which I decide to be a male.
I fantasia'd into a female elezen for a period of time but I got bored and switched back to male.
My choice was solely based on which one was the most adorable, so naturally Lalafell were the first choice. Female Lalafell have the most adorable hairstyles and the cutest voices, and also access to some of the more flattering outfits. It was an obvious choice.
I was seriously debating making a male character over a female one when I started. The real kicker for me was that most of the starting male hairstyles made you look like an onion. :/
On the flip side, I prefer female characters in MMOs since they normally get the wider access to gear and customization. It's for this same reason that I might be using my free Fantasia to change to the new race once it becomes available in the expansion because a lot of cool gear is sadly generalized when put to the small lalafell form.
I play as a male in game but Im female irl. I just don't like the current female armour most games provide that makes them look like hookers (although this game isn't too bad on that front), I also find most of the voices sound like nails on a chalkboard. Another good reason to play as a male is you get less harassment, its great, had only one incident when I was in ST and someone found out I was female (think it was my mannerisms in chat) and then people started complimenting my ass (my male toons ass that is) and asking me very personal questions such as my breast size etc, so yeah, keeps the creeps at bay...
My male friend once did a little experiment, he made a female and a male character (in another mmo, name escapes me) and as the male we went around and asked for any lowbie armour to help him and he got nothing, he then went on his female (I bet you know where this is going) and he asked the same thing and got LOADS of stuff in return and a few people started grooming him...

Im an old-school OCD core gamer so I have to have a male and female avatar. As a guy I always go male first and max out everything I want to then when I get bored start a female avatar and do the things I didn't do with my male avatar. I also generally restrict melee/physical attack to my male avatar (i.e tanks, drg, monk) and female gets healers/mage/magic attack (i.e. whm, sch, blm, smn).
No creepy thoughts or perverted ideas; I just want to have every possible experience in a game that has gender locked items/equipment.
Right? It's interesting, it seems like females that play male characters tend to lean more toward making "pretty" males rather than rugged or super-manly ones. I know I personally fell into that category. x3I'm female and I prefer to play male alts, I'm more comfortable as one, and I like to make pretty males I can lust over, you also get less harassed. But it depends of games, in some games and MMOs I find the males ugly so I end up making females instead, like Age of Conan or Diablo 3 where solely the male wizard is handsome.
Been playing female chars since 16years back when I started mmos.
Still remember that day gamer lady told me only females can tell a female out of another, when I asked how to know which is which.
16yrs later, can't really tell the difference, but have a long list of experience getting hit on by actual guys.
But sexual harassments or getting hit on kinda disappeared for the last 8yrs or so.

When i go there to make a female character. i try to make sure i can both respect her and fear her. In a game where killing creatures is involved.
edit: like Aqua from kingdom hearts.
I don't think anyone can stop me anymore, except for god"...
That does happen. Once when I was playing my male ranger in Guild Wars, I was in a group with a female ranger and a monk, and the male monk kept healing her and not me and I died a lot because of that, I ended with a big death penalty. So I got angry, yelled at the monk and told him the female ranger was probably a guy anyway, that I was female myself, and I was tired of his behavior and to start healing everyone equally instead of just "her". Anyway, he apologized and behaved the rest of the way.My male friend once did a little experiment, he made a female and a male character (in another mmo, name escapes me) and as the male we went around and asked for any lowbie armour to help him and he got nothing, he then went on his female (I bet you know where this is going) and he asked the same thing and got LOADS of stuff in return and a few people started grooming him...
I do indeed. I personally find rugged or super-manly men in real life or medias and games really ugly so I don't connect much with western medias because of that. I prefer mangas over graphic novels per example. And I find Harry Mason and James Sunderland in Silent Hill 1 and 2 much more handsome than their western counterparts.
