playing as male or a female character in game

I don't know if theres a thread about this subject.

But anyway, as a male gamer behind my character, I quite like to know if anyone has an in-game character, which is the opposite to their real life gender. I think the female miquote look quite good, as well as the lallafel and elezen races. However, I wouldn't say no to making up a tough looking male roegadyn character.

I was wondering also, if theres any female gamers who play as in-game male characters.

I'm a nerdy lady, but I like to play as both genders . My main is a Miqo lady. I did have a Miqo boy, but I deleted him 'cause I wasn't satisfied with his look. I'm in the process of recreating him and figuring out one other alt, as well. I love my alts ^_^. I need to find a role play group so they can have some lurve and not gather dust.

There have been a few threads about this.
Here is the only one I can still find though - http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...irl-characters

    The short form is:
    • Some people play characters they want to be
    • Some people play characters they want to look at
    • Some people will use male pronouns no matter the gender of the avatar
    • Some people will always use the pronoun appropriate for the avatar

And some people have a 1.0 legacy character where there were no male miqo'te or female roegadyn.

    And no female Highlanders

    I'm a male playing female. Started 1.0 as a Miqo'te.
I think the female characters just look better

People have different opinions on the matter on whether it's "creepy" or not to play as the opposite or even the same gender as yourself.
I know plenty of women that play male character because that's just what they find appealing of the character choices for that particular game.

I personally swap between male and female ones based on aesthetic considerations and less so "I am a boy, I must play a boy" "I am a girl, I must play as a girl"

Mostly I just consider it a character, just like a movie or a book or any other game that you "embed" yourself into as you experience it, that's all it is.

My aunt watched my play FFXIV 1.23 once with my female hyur her response was "Wait, why a female character not a male one? Wouldn't that confuse people?"
After explaining, "When people play Tomb Raider do they go "Oh, this is a female character, but I'm not a female therefore I can't play this".

At the end of the day it's just a character, what you do with it however changes that.
If you pretend to be a female and wish people to think that, that's up to you.

I always play female character, though I am male.

I actually started doing this in 1984 in a D&D game precisely because it let me figure out who had mental issues as noted above...
    - Could very quickly learn to cut those people out of my gaming groups.

But I've been doing that for so long now when I try to make a male character they just feel 'off / out of place' and I can't 'get into their heads'...

In MMOs, for years my main was a female Tauren Warrior, and in GW2, it was a one-eyed female Charr Warrior. I make some of them 'attractive' and some not - as the mood strikes me. They're characters after all, not me. And its very revealing to see how other people's biases / psych-problems come out over it.

Back when I started my former WoW guild, in 2007... the characters were maybe 70% male, but the players were about 70% women - and it was all over the place who was on what. All the people who made 'weird comments' about who might be playing what and why got a bit of an awakening when we got our vent-server, and didn't last long in the guild.

'm a woman and I predominately play female characters, both in MMOs and in table-top RPGs. For me, it's a matter of aesthetics. Usually female character models are better-looking than the male ones, though this game seems to be capable of creating some rather impressive-looking male characters. Though, in this game, my main character is a male Miqo'te.

Male, I play both male and female characters.

Like some others, I view my characters in any game as a separate entity, like the main character in a book, and do not link them to myself at all. My main criteria for picking the race/gender of the character I play is mostly dependent on how their animations look, how clothing/armor looks on them, and if they are simply aesthetically pleasing. I also typically like to play smaller characters, I dislike large character models.

I started with a male Hyur when the game was released, but didn't like how they stood and felt they were too large. I changed to a male Miqo'te, but didn't like the exaggerated way that they ran. I fiddled around with Lalas for a bit, and while I didn't have any complaints, I just didn't like playing as one. Settled on a female Miqo'te. The aren't large but not too small, so armor tends to look better on them (imo).
