Why not just have the players have the resistances and monsters/bosses have the elemented attacks? Make it half and half if putting out both on enemies and players is gonna make a fizz.

That's a great idea, except for the fact that we already have that system in place. If you check your chracter sheet in-game, you'll see that you have elemental resistance (albeit with a very small 2-3 point variance based on patron deity you picked at character creation), that may or may not be buffed from Primal Weapons or Materia, and can also be temporarily increased with Ward potions. It's just that there are many people that forget about it because players of FFXIV don't really think of the elemental wheel as being a thing, because they can't use it offensively, they can only use it defensively.
I'm pretty sure the other problem is that it's actually pretty weak as a defensive stat, such that even though you know you'd be primarily taking lightning damage in something like Ramuh EX, it's still not worth going to all the trouble of stacking lightning resist even if you're the tank.That's a great idea, except for the fact that we already have that system in place.
