    BLM is the main thing holding this back as far as magic resistance wheel, along with the Slashing, Piercing, and Blunt? resistance.

    People say they cant rework a whole class, but that has happened in many games along with FFXI. Its possible, but only at 3.0 I'd say.

    It's not really nerfing, it's alteration with benefits to those who play their class smarter.

    In 3.0, the game is getting an overhaul. There is no reason that, in that overhaul, BLM can get some traditional spells back. I even listed changes earlier on in this thread that could be implemented to make the elemental wheel much easier to follow, by getting rid of spell-dependent Astral/Umbral buffs and turning them into their own separate toggles like a Paladin's Shield/Sword Oath to remove dependency on using one element or the other.

    Also, Ifrit would be immune to fire, resistant to wind, weak to ice and water. Shiva would be immune to ice, resistant to water, weak to fire and earth. Garuda would be immune to wind, resistant to fire, weak to lightning and earth. Titan would be immune to earth, resistant to lightning, weak to ice and wind. Ramuh would be immune to lightning, resistant to wind, and weak to ice and earth. Leviathan would be immune to water, resistant to fire, and weak to lightning and earth. Every other spell would inflict neutral damage, which means "the same damage it would inflict if it had no weaknesses or resistances whatsoever".

    I am asking for Black Mage to be the goddamn job it's always been. Right now, there is no point whatsoever for a Black Mage to have Fire, Blizzard, or Thunder spells specifically because they do not inflict Fire damage, Ice damage, or Thunder damage. They inflict neutral, neutral, and neutral damage. And this is a game where the elemental wheel actually does exist, but only from the perspective of "enemies can hit players with elemental spells, and a higher resist will marginally lessen damage", which is very one-sided and is valid evidence that the element wheel still exists.

    Right now, BLM is bland as hell and I have no interest in playing it because of its blandness. The only thing it has going for it is its virtually infinite MP and its ability to unlock swiftcast for healers. That's it.

    The elemental wheel has always been a part of Final Fantasy from the very beginning. Every single game has had the elemental wheel. Except this one. Because apparently all Black Mages are too stupid to figure out that Fire melts ice.

    Again, the job BLM has always been would be the master of Fire, Thunder and Blizzard spells. Which it just so happens to be in XIV. In games with the elemental wheel, excluding FFX, it was always more beneficial to cast your strongest spell as opposed to the elementally appropriate one assuming the spell wouldn't heal the enemy or the enemy in question happened to have a specifically high resistance. Even in FFXI.

    I find BLM a lot more fun and engaging now than FFXI's BLM. It has a mechanic and a use for every spell. Giving them every element will see them getting bloated with skills that they won't even use except for very specific elementally appropriate fights. In Ifrit for example you will only use (using your toggle idea) tier 1 and tier 3 spells of whatever is strong to fire in this game and tier 1 and tier 3 spells of whatever is elementally neutral in this game. 4 spells, as usual but now you have 8 spells just sitting there which have absolutely no use in the fight (before you count all the AoE spells too).

    And I'm rather curious now. You say Ifrit would be weak to Water and Ice but then say Fire melts Ice. Which is it then?

    And Halvung EXP was amazing. It was nice to be able to do something out of the norm and with other fellow BLMs.
    Except it led to BLMs apologizing for taking up space in parties, left them out of the main way of leveling (BLMs after 45-ish eventually were expected to solo their levels), or had to cure-bitch in order to justify their spots.

    It wasn't all rainbows and unicorns. Actually quite the opposite.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:

    And what kind of depth would that add?
    It seems like people want elemental wheels just for the sake of having it
    None, and that wasn't the point. People keep wanting Elemental weaknesses added in, yet the counter example is that classes like BLM would be majorly gimped as a result. Ok fine, if you want to add in Elements, then you're going to need to add something like what I suggested to BLMs to make them still relevant to all content. That's all I was saying.
