    No, I won't stop it. WoW pvp was exploitable until just recently. Heal a flagged player? Tab target badly? Make the terrible mistake of left clicking instead of right on looting? Congratulations! You've opted into pvp! Timeless Isle and Barrens were completely un-GM-enforced nightmares that cost Blizzard subs. This is the thing I'm worried about.. Read my responses too. I'm okay with it if they can keep it away from PVE zones. I'm cool with non-spam dueling.

    The Com.Devs read these forums. Input from them goes back to the developers. If players like me don't say something, we end up with Barrens and I don't want that. If they decide to do a pvp zone, I'd want to see that PVE players at least said something.

    In all fairness, you didn't. Others have and given that we have some arena looking areas in game, it sounded nice.

    Is any of this going to affect you in any way?
    If you make the PVE and PVP hamlet defense separate, I'm completely with you on it. I also think the notion of having your server frontline standings mean something would also be nice. Certainly having it do something outside of bragging rights would be a good perk.

    Well then, we're in agreement.

    Primarily this game just needs more sandbox content, and PvP is certainly the easiest way to achieve that (though you can have passive competitive content, or even something like housing can fit the bill I guess). I don't know why developers don't jump at the chance to add such content. Theme park content requires them dangling a carrot in our face, then replacing it with a new carrot every patch (see: Coil). Sandbox content has them throwing us a carrot and watching us fight over it. OK that sounds rabid, but it's a much better way at keeping players attention between patches than the alternative (lockouts, RNGs and massive grinds being the current trend in padding out content between patches). One week I take the carrot, next week you take it, then someone else takes it. All month long we're fighting over it though, and playing the game as a result. The same cannot be said for theme park content, considering we do tend to notice a drop off in players who "take a break" until the next patch comes out.

    The original Frontline is not bound to duty finder. It is literally a open PvP zone, but they ran into one problem..... how to get people to go to that zone? FF11 is an open PvP in some sort, a PvP event that people choose to do or not to do. That didn't go too well. Each server maybe have approximately 100 ballista players and that is it. Open World PvP is simply not a sale here.

    Why? What's the difference between walking into a zone - and queuing in? Wait times? I mean if you walk into the zone and there's nobody else in there that entire area and it's assets are sort of waste right? And you'd still be waiting...

    How would it work? Flagging duels? Why get a zone for a duel? Free-for-all? Can you party? Can you only join people of the same faction? Does Moral work? Can you attack solo players without a party? How do you determine grieving vs. acceptable play? Is there an iLv cap or level sync? What about rewards - or is it just for the fun of whooping each other? What does the winner gain? What does the loser lose (if anything)?

    Honestly; PVP with no objective but "kill the other guy" is pretty boring pretty quickly. Wolves Den vs. Frontlines - which do you think most people perfer?

    I'd much rather have more PVP modes instanced with some structure than a free-for-all zone or a duel system.

    Meh, I love open world PvP but I've come to the conclusion it's not for this game. Theres no war in this game, theres no conflict that involves player vs player. I think back to SWG, there was a true conflict, rebels vs imperials - open world pvp was insanely fun trying to capture cities and bases for med stims and pvp buffs. It had meaning and you had pride for your faction. Ganks, crap talk, teabaggin', etc rivalries were all part of the program and it was every bit fun.


    None of that exist in this game - everyone is on the same team, we all wear goofy hats, high-heels and bikini's together and hold hands as we take down the big scary monster that haunts our little kids at night. We hope in RNGsus that we get that minion or mount because this game is basically hoarders online (I MUST GET EVERY MOUNT AND MINION). Everyones a hero, there can't be a loser. It's just how this game is.

    I don't see how a PvP zone is any different than an instanced PvP zone like Frontlines. That and I think player killing has no place in this game, and isn't something Final Fantasy has ever been known for.

    Open world PvP couldn't be added to this game (and would make no sense), but organized PvP that is limited to a specific region is what SE hyped us from the beginning, with Yoshi saying he was a DAoC player. That old Frontlines concept art even had some catapults and a big fortress/castle thing, which made me think of something awesome like Warhammer's RvR or something a la Guild Wars 2 (but improved, it's not that great). Sadly we got a large scale battlegrounds...

    I still hope we'll get something like that in the future as Yoshi was impressed with the number of people PvPing.

    EDIT: Now that I think of it, Yoshida said once that SE could add an open PvP server if there was enough people asking for it.

    Unless I'm reading things wrong, it sounds like most people ain't asking for a mix and want them separate anyway. So unless you choose to create a character on a PVP server you'll be 100% safe from harm and have no reason to worry. If you do go to a PVP server then yes all the PVE areas will be flagged open PVP and you'll have to deal with it. If you don't want to PVP then stay on a PVE world.

    For ones that do want a mix I don't see it happening in this game, not due to lore or anything else of the matter but more from excuses of "it will be too stressful to the new players" or some other excuse why it can't be implemented.

    Sooo yeah I'm 100% for a open world PVP server. The lore question is easy fixed as well. Unless the GC hierarchy has changed since 1.0 we the player represent the free military rank of the Companies. Where as we work with the companies but that doesn't mean we don't have our own agendas as well, we just have a little more freedom to act on them them, unlike the upper ranks.
