if it have enough demand why not a full pvp server, but no open pvp area on a pve server
the point is and has been, there are pvp games and pve games, which is fine. the problem starts when the pvp crowd starts QQ over no pvp or not the "right kind" of pvp. the demands start and the devs cave in because they would like more ppl to play. SE gave the pvp crowd pvp, which is fine. no one has to pvp if they do not want to, no flagging no ganking is the way the game was built. now look, the creep as it were, has started and now the pvp crowd wants open world pvp because they are board, they dont wanna raid etc.
the problem with open world pvp in 14 is the game was not build for it, that is why miner bot and fisher are a thing. the pvp ppl would hate it if they got their pvp thing and these classes were not able to be attacked. or a crafter doing their thing. and if no classes were held out of the pvp, no one would want to go farm because they would be camped over and over, as we have seen from other posts here.
Along these lines, what I'm noticing is that there seem to be three camps of open world pvpers.
Nalien's proposal is reasonable and basically amounts to another piece of zoned/instanced content that those of us who don't pvp can ignore, but gives the game a few sandbox elements and player controlled elements. Would a single faction end up controlling the zone? Possibly, but that's for the players to figure out and those of us handling PVE content can go on our way without it affecting us. Jaykos and a few others included an arena suggestion along the same vein, also no affect on PVE players and could share the same server.
There's the group that wants a separate server for it. No affect on the PVE servers at all.
and then there's this:
Oh yeah, I totally want this in the game.
Edit: Basically, as a PVE player, I can be convinced/buy into the idea of open world or semi-open world content as long as there is a clear line of demarcation. I won't spoil their fun if they aren't spoiling mine. As long as I'm not paying my sub to be someone else's content, I'm cool with it.
For an open world zone, that inspires an image of players crossing the zone as leatherworkers, just so they could cross safely.
Thinking on the (zoned/instanced) hamlet defense scenario, I don't think gatherers and crafters would be immune to attack. Those players actually would be prime targets as they add resources to the opposing side.

Wow, you poor guy. Whats got you so upset that you'd go tell people to play other MMO's when just making a suggestion? Not just you either, seems to be the mindset of many players.Go play WildStar, RIFT, World of Warcraft, ArcheAge, AION, AIKA, Perfect World International PVP Servers, Wakfu, etc.![]()
I'm laughing at the "pve" game, and then the suggestions to play these games which are apparently... pvp games? (horrid pvp systems in many of these games, ff 14 surpassing most by some distance)
I'm afraid people with this sort of mentality are going to be very, very upset with the future of ff 14. This games producer is a massive PVP player with two decades of experience. Also a current player, with hundreds of FL games under his belt (inspite of the time restraints from an insanely taxing job, a job where hes admitted to getting sick multiple times due to it's taxing nature, but he still gets in his pvp!). And you somehow think this has no effect on the direction of the game? lol
Newsflash, FF 14 is a modern RPG, which means PVP will feature quite heavily in it's future, and the fact that Yoshi P is such a massive PVP player ensures this.
It's pretty funny how people ignore all the facts about this game to try and reassure themselves that they won't get butthurt over pvp. Guess what? Tanks and healers are in short supply, such a short supply that it's really effecting peoples enjoyment of the games pve content, especially leveling wise. What new class is coming next? A new DPS, ninja. What has Yoshi P said multiple times in the past before Ninja was announced regarding new classes? He said that he felt the pvp system is really lacking a "scout" class. Getting this scout class in the game for frontlines took precedence over a solution for the PVE problems with tank/healer shortage.
Remember the withdrawal trolls for FL and cyrstal/syrcus tower? Emergency patch that fixed this completely for FL within a few days. And how long has this been a problem for PVE....
Oh and let's not forget that this game was released with 90! ranks of pvp (rank 30 alone originally took somewhere around 1500 games)... or maybe we should forget that, because it hurts our feelings?
Theres also the fact that multiple other FL modes are in the works (including different maps). And that Yoshi P is interested in making the pvp competitive, but slowly breaking the community into it.
Fact of that matter is, Yoshi P has major designs for PVP to have more than it's fair share of space in FF 14. The day people realize this... the butthurt levels will go through the roof.
Good news is, if you don't like it, you don't have to play it. It really shouldn't have any effect on your level of enjoyment.

The issue is this was not his game when it is on the planning board. When he took over, PvP wasn't taken into the planning when they re-design the actions. This is why you have the drama over the Cleric Stance on the PvP Fourm. It is near being a foolish act to put in a World PvP into the game when they haven't be able to balance the PvP in this game. A clear line to distinguish between set of PvE only actions and a set of PvP only actions. They are still observing and adjust the PvP balance. They hold all major adjustment back until they are able to see the chemical reaction when they blend in Ninja and Rouge into the PvP. This game is far from ready for having a World PvP even you want to ignore the lore. This isn't like other MMO, PvP simply wasn't taking into the consideration during the design stage.
The system thar Prec3vial asking is pretty much a ballista from FF11. Even they want to bring the ballista back, do not expect it is same as those retro games.

Not counting the fact that this game is oriented on "all factions WORKING TOGETHER" and not on "all factions kick the crap out of each other":
(I suppose PvP-ers never read the story and realize we stop the nations from breaking apart)
1 - World PvP and I'm out of the game.
2 - PvP that affects PvE in ANY WAY (stats, spells, armor, items, you name it) and I'm out of here.
What I think of PvP and PK-ers/gankers (especially when they moan about not having PvP) amounts to this:
Keep PvP locked up in instances and arenas as it already is. If possible, just shove it in a server or two down on the bottom of the list, flag them as PvP oriented and let the PK's flock there, stay there and good riddance.
Tired of seeing PvP-ers get into PvE games and then moan about not having <insert PvP crap>.
Go to another game that caters to your needs instead of trying to force PvP down PvE's throats.
I think the most interesting way to implement this is after players finish story mode they should be allowed to create characters from Garlean which would have their own unique story, and can choose to flag themselves for PVP against players from the other factions. This would not only add more content to the game since we would get to play the game from Garleans perspective and get to know the Garlean NPC's better, but would also make PVP make sense lore wise.
If this is asking too much than just a simple option to duel players would be fine.
one of the best ways to do this I think would be like the arenas in the cities in Aion. (not the que arenas but the ones you can just walk into.) They where in each capital city and you could just zone into it and everything in there was open to pvp. it was a small circle with an edge for spectators (that was a non pvp zone), but everything in the "pit" was. it was a great place to get your guild together and have some friendly competition or one on ones.
