What makes it especially irritating is that it's not even a rogue GROUP. It's a single person, but is apparently absolutely untouchable by the law, let alone by adventurers. The whole premise behind the Cartenau Flats being made into a PVP battleground just stinks to high-heaven of lack-of-effort. Sorta like a majority of the rest of the game's content...So they turn the flats into a free-for-all proxy war? Oh yeah. that makes perfect sense. If the alliance has an objective (prevent a rogue element from capturing omega), why wouldn't they do a joint strike ala what was done with the attack on castrum? Oh, that's right, because it wouldn't justify turning the area into a pvp instance.
Look, I'm glad the battleground is there. Out of sight and all that, but the lore doesn't make sense.
Might have something to do with the fact that their resources are stretched thin monitoring the Garleans and fighting off Beast tribes. The attack on Praetorium was to stop Ultima Weapon, which was already up and functioning. Omega Weapon is not functioning, it does not require the same response, especially if directly responding to it would leave them open to attack from elsewhere. Quelling a potential threat does not require the same response that replying to an ultimatum did...
Also, that rogue element is within their own ranks, well Ul'dahs. That's another reason we're fighting and not their troops, who could be persuaded into furthering one mans goals. The only Grand Company I'd trust with it is Twin Adders (pirates be pirates), but they're busy watching the Garleans front door.
There's also that tiny little aspect you may have missed if you haven't done Frontlines, but the ruins are partly active. You may as well be asking why Adventurers are taking on Crystal Tower or The Binding Coil; Why don't the Grand Companies just send their armies in there?
And if you'd actually read what I'm suggesting, you'd know you wouldn't have to deal with such people in the slightest. /shrugs

Then you handle it as a story quest with a full party duty. They send us to do their dirty work all the time. Having an equally scarce resource (competent adventurers) killing each other over a barren pile of rock makes no sense.Might have something to do with the fact that their resources are stretched thin monitoring the Garleans and fighting off Beast tribes. .
Except we don't die.
I'd also wonder what can actually be achieved sending in a full party to deal with Ultima Weapons big brother, when the only reason we could even hurt Ultima Weapon was because of a plothax sentient crystal which is now no longer with us...
Leave it buried and keep prying hands away from it.
Actually, another reason we're even there is to keep an eye on it if I remember correctly. Frontlines is something to do while we make sure no one turns the thing on; and if they do we're right there ready to respond. Hypothetically, if I go running around Frontlines looking for enemies to knock out, I'm more likely to run into any Lalafell messing around with things he shouldn't, than I am if I, or any guard they post, just sit watch somewhere. It is a large area to patrol, having a constant battle going on there is much more effective I think.

You need to learn to read, his thought wouldnt allow for griefing. You are one of the carebears I am talking about. You are simply scared of the term PVP, you have no idea what he is trying to do with it or anything. Reread the posts then comment creatively, dont make excuses before its even in the game as to why "you" wouldnt want to do it then call it a reason it shouldnt be in the game.
Btw Optional? Foreign terms in an MMO amirite?
I am reading what you're suggesting and some I agree with. For instance, dueling? I want to see them implement that in a grief-free way (no duel challenge spamming). A free for all arena sort of thing? If they put controls around it, It wouldn't bother me.
What does bother me is the very real possibility that they wouldn't put controls around it. Griefers are grand masters of finding ways to piss other people off and the notion that there was a possibly of having to tolerate being griefed for an entire patch pisses me off.
I want them to put pvp content in in the same way I want the raids in. It gives variety even if I never use it. I just don't want it to spill over because someone else decides to be an arse.
Nice try, but no. I played WoW long enough to know that "optional" wpvp never is.You need to learn to read, his thought wouldnt allow for griefing. You are one of the carebears I am talking about. How would it not be optional if its retained to a zone? Makes no sense to me how you fair being griefed if you aren't in the WPVP zone.
Morale is already in the works for a rework or complete removal.
PVP gear = vanity
So again, if you aren't in the zone to get stomped how are you being griefed? Highly doubt any of the rewards from this WPVP will be worth a damn.
WoW WPVP was also optional unless you was on a PVP server in which case you better buck up and deal with it. Otherwise dont attack enemy players and dont flag = WPVP free experience?
Shtap it.
Am I forgiven....
I don't recall suggesting dueling...
What I suggested was Hamlet Defense, but PvP (and slightly more fleshed out now because time) :
-Three new zones, accessed by talking to an NPC somewhere, one for each area (Immortal Flames control a new zone in Thanalan, etc.).
-The areas are not normally battlefields, instead a place where Disciples of Land and Hand can turn in items to increase the areas defense rating (more defensive structures/NPCs when battles occur).
-Every 2 hours a battle occurs in one of the zones (Twin Adder attacks Maelstroms zone, 2 hours later Maelstrom attacks Immortal Flames zone, etc.).
-Victory lets you obtain/hold onto (if you're attacking/defending) a shiny which has <insert benefits here>.
-Battles last X minutes, to win you either need to prevent the enemy from getting your shiny (running up to it and interacting and running away with it, like Sylph dailies if that makes sense), or take your enemies shiny.
Granted, I did follow it up by suggesting doubling it up by making the PvE Hamlet Defense use the same zones, but that was only because you can work the rotation of the zones use such that PvE and PvP don't overlap. I guess you might be able to get caught out and end up there during PvP, but that seems very unlikely.
Another thing I suggested was simply having Grand Companies tally results from Frontlines; you leave Frontlines with points based on what position you came in, those points go towards your servers tally. That is one simply change that makes Frontlines less about me grinding achievements/PvP EXP/Wolf Marks, and more about taking the Twin Adders to #1 week after week, or at least trying to.
Is any of this going to affect you in any way? Any benefits from such content can be balanced to ensure it isn't something you need to do, plus it could be something you get benefits from without even participating in PvP; Twin Adder comes first this week, for that week they get 5% off the cost of all Company Seals items. I'm sure that would draw a few PvE players in, but if you absolutely loath the content it isn't like you have to do it... Heck, tie such a reward with the Hamlet Defense suggestion and you can help without participating in PvP at all; You trade items in to raise your Grand Companies defense rating to help the PvPers.
My Sealed Castle suggestion (was that in this thread?) could arguably have a massive impact on PvE players, but they could just do something similar; have a safe zone where PvE players can passively help by providing siege weapons/defenses.
