So what if there are a thousand players that can afford it? That just means there are hundreds of thousands who can't and Yoshi is driving those in to the welcoming arms of gil sellers instead of reducing the demand for gil which is the only way to limit the supply. The stupidity and arrogance of using RMT as an excuse for the housing fiasco really pisses me off.

No, what is driving them towards RMT is themselves and their laziness. Blaming the devs for players deciding to buy Gil, is like blaming the merchants for banks being robbed.

I can understand people being upset that what they got, was not what was expected. But some complaints around this topic are just plain strange.

Here's the problem with your comment regarding "entitlement". SE knew going into this that slapping the flagship title on this game would open the gates for comparisons to their earlier mmo. They shot themselves in the foot by making Mog Houses a basic part of the Adventurer package there, but somehow a monumental "achievement" here. It goes back to the developers basically telling us what to value in the game. If you aren't working on making money, you are a lazy and worthless human being who should just uninstall the game because you don't deserve to play it.

It's absurd and insulting and even the Japanese... the polite, quiet and respectful Japanese... are ripping him to shreds over this.

You can use this lazy excuse for every outlandish concept a developer can come up with. You want to ride a mount? It costs 100 million and only 50 players on the server can do it. You don't like that? Well you're just being lazy.

Screw that, gaming is a hobby, it should be fun, it should never ever equate with WORK, or a SECOND JOB, or MAIN PRIORITY in your life EVER!! Basic necessities should being able to own your own room, and to garden should be AVAILABLE FREE for all. This is a game, for fun, to enjoy, to log and play, and you should never be obligated to farm to make hundreds of millions of gills. And you wonder why RMT are swarming this game? Because SE is dumb enough to encourage them - and forcing their player base to resort to buy gil.

Exactly. Instead of expanding off the FFXI housing model, which many would be familiar with even if they didn't play the game simply due to others bringing it up, they approached the housing in a way players did not want or expect. It's frustrating because the player response was easily predictable in the framework of what makes the game successful, and it indicates they do not fully understand what is and isn't generally working for the players in their game.

They need to be doing a lot more surveys and research on what the players want out of the game so they can make informed design decisions.

Balmung being legacy and people playing since '11, I just can't imagine anyone having 30mill to almost 90 mill in savings. I really can't.
Leviathan is new for 2.0 I REALLY don't know how anyone can manage that in a year unless ya'll a RMT.

The only person I know with this amount of money laying around is a guy that spends all his time mercing. He's got a boatload of gil and I'm sure he's built a monument to himself now that he doesn't have to be in our FC to do it, but come on SE. This kind of practice only encourages RMT or excessive mercing, neither of which are "healthy" activities in a successful mmo.

I've asked every possible question about this crap and the only answer I can give you is: LAZINESS.
I can't help but laugh at this "Players are lazing around..." Meanwhile, it doesn't take a Chipmunk
to go "Oh...well let's split FC housing, for everyone!" and do nothing new at all in the past 9 months!!!!
It's like they seriously were on deadline day to thinking about P. Housing and here's what we got.

There is no "expectation" for an individual player to buy a house. You can beat every single encounter in the game without having a house, easily. In fact, having a house does not affect your ability to perform duties in any shape whatsoever.

They don't have that much money. We ran out of the it back when we were buying FC houses. There are a few legacy players who are more lone wolf and still have money left, but they're a minority. I'm not saying I had all that much gil to begin with (I stopped playing FFXIV 1.0 at level 10 ), but I got to know a lot of other 1.0 players in my FC (I love Sundown. A lot of great people in that FC). All the gil I have comes from what I've been doing in 2.0+, which amounts to about 800k gil.
