You can use this lazy excuse for every outlandish concept a developer can come up with. You want to ride a mount? It costs 100 million and only 50 players on the server can do it. You don't like that? Well you're just being lazy.

Screw that, gaming is a hobby, it should be fun, it should never ever equate with WORK, or a SECOND JOB, or MAIN PRIORITY in your life EVER!! Basic necessities should being able to own your own room, and to garden should be AVAILABLE FREE for all. This is a game, for fun, to enjoy, to log and play, and you should never be obligated to farm to make hundreds of millions of gills. And you wonder why RMT are swarming this game? Because SE is dumb enough to encourage them - and forcing their player base to resort to buy gil.

I would like for you to please look at the Leviathan and for you Balmung prices.
All of them, not just Small. You tell me which individual has this amount of money?
Balmung being legacy and people playing since '11, I just can't imagine anyone having 30mill to almost 90 mill in savings. I really can't.
Leviathan is new for 2.0 I REALLY don't know how anyone can manage that in a year unless ya'll a RMT.

A better question is why is something that was considered an "achievement" for a FC working together now "expected" of individual players? None of this makes any sense.

The only person I know with this amount of money laying around is a guy that spends all his time mercing. He's got a boatload of gil and I'm sure he's built a monument to himself now that he doesn't have to be in our FC to do it, but come on SE. This kind of practice only encourages RMT or excessive mercing, neither of which are "healthy" activities in a successful mmo.

There is no "expectation" for an individual player to buy a house. You can beat every single encounter in the game without having a house, easily. In fact, having a house does not affect your ability to perform duties in any shape whatsoever.

There's no need to do any of those things either, nor is it necessary that everyone be able to.
There's just an arbitrary line people draw up about what is considered important or integral and what is not.

You misunderstood what I meant. I fully believe SE didn't expect anyone to be interested in housing at all. What I meant with my comment was the content was priced with the thought in mind that several people were working together as a group (fc) to attain the achievement. Now, for some arbitrary reason (some terrible math), SE has an expectation that this is now an achievement within the reach of the average player.

But they didn't change FC version of the pricing accordingly. So which is it? 80m (And I am citing this number because these are all that is left on Balmung) split between several people? Or 80m is commonplace on the average, Non-crafting, PvE player? I don't think the numbers *truly* support his logic. Either that, or he's stuck in pre-abyssea FFXI where 60 people would work years on one guy's relic and he thought that was good design.

Yeah that was lie #1 really. I remember it well. Here is a quote from Yoshi:

What. the. crap. So this housing scheme is built for like the 10 people that have gil to afford it?

They don't have that much money. We ran out of the it back when we were buying FC houses. There are a few legacy players who are more lone wolf and still have money left, but they're a minority. I'm not saying I had all that much gil to begin with (I stopped playing FFXIV 1.0 at level 10 ), but I got to know a lot of other 1.0 players in my FC (I love Sundown. A lot of great people in that FC). All the gil I have comes from what I've been doing in 2.0+, which amounts to about 800k gil.
