Nah, once you set something down, if it can be retrieved, you can still take it back. Unless you mean you're unable to set them in another house, even if you're holding it in your inventory, in which case I can't confirm it.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure the point he was trying to make is that anything that can be retrieved is mostly garbage furnishings nobody would/should really care about. All of the expensive stuff is generally bound to the house.
