Me easy when i meet a guy that say something like that to me or a new guy that we say (new here/first time)

i say: OK so you got 3 choice ... waste (30sec-2min wipe by boss by learning while having fun (me/new player)) or (5sec to explane just the important point) OR (lose 10-30min time while he/i afk to watch video) ... what your choice ??

some leave , some understand and have fun in wipe without rage quit .. and some explane just the important point take 5 sec

You didn't just compare humanity learning to progress through life from history to video game players learning from guide videos. Did you? Were you serious? ROFL!!!!!

Experience is the best teacher. Telling people to watch a video and spoil it for themselves is inconsiderate. If you want a group of players who know everything about an encounter, make a party finder group. Otherwise don't place those expectations upon people.

There are a number of factors at play

One: MMO players, in general, are experienced at playing MMOs now than they were in, say, the mid-to-late 1990s. Back when the only MMOs out there were Ultima Online and the original EverQuest, there were no videos and very few guides on how to deal with fight mechanics. You had to learn the hard way: through trial, error and time. Lots of time.

Two: In this day and age, the typical consumer wants instant gratification. Or as close to it as they can possibly get. This leads to bad attitudes, bullying and all manner of poor behavior.

Three: Leveling in MMOs, even old ones, have become streamlined. In some cases a little too streamlined. So leveling seems to go by quickly. Then the game becomes more about the destination than the journey. On the other hand, you can still enjoy the journey even if it's a quick jaunt.

Four: While videos are extremely handy in dealing with boss/mob mechanics (especially in dungeons), they only provide you with an idea of what to expect and how best to respond to it. But, these videos don't take into consideration of adapting, or that there are different ways to vanquish a particularly nasty boss (Zu in Pharos Sirius comes to mind). You may have an idea of what to expect after watching a video, but nothing beats good, old fashioned first-hand experience.

Why? Oh, and don't pull "it's just a game" on me. The concept is the same.

It's the same concept even if you choose to laugh at it.

For both of you, the argument was to basically remove them completely. Made by the person from the first quote no less. When you choose to bring out a comment like that, pretty much anything goes. People make those videos and guides to HELP people. If you willingly choose to not use them, that's fine, your choice. But to go so far as to say they should be removed or not exist at all? Sorry, you won't get any slack from me for that kind of poor thinking.

    For Reference

On that note, I for one, as well as the rest of my FC actually prefer getting "new players" in our DF group, because we enjoy seeing the surprise and excitement they have, it brings it back for us too. Youtube does nothing but gimp the playerbase and decrease skill.
You should look at yourself when you say the part after the bolding. Your behavior with the bolded comment is right in line with it.

Wouldn't that be covered by the "online interactions not rated by the ESRB" comment?

I really hate the guides at times. They make it more like following a script than playing a game.
I enjoy going in blind(and have so far gone in blind into every battle even on DF, yes even bcob and ex's and plan to go blind into scob).
What I like even more is when if you are a first timer the party doesn't explain anything(unless you ask of course) to you unless you are messing up badly(I met a great tank and his group for the first brayflox longstop(NM), they were polite but they left me figure out stuff on my own - ever since I've been hooked at figuring stuff on my own(and have ever since - the people in my FC and LSs and static all know this and even if they did it before me(happens at times) they let me figure it out - and to top it off I made a great friend from that tank).

Going in blind is part of the fun. Trying to figure out and understand the fights. I will look at a guide though if there is something particulary odd that I can't figure out.

I have so much joy when somenoe joins any dungen and says "I'm new here". I just say enjoy it and have fun.

People want people to know what to do so they can finish their dungeons super fast. Cause, you know, MMOs are totally not meant to be played for a long time. No, you have to speed through every piece of content ever! (I get endgame raids like Coil and all, some people simply prefer to get those down asap once they're released, but just ordinary dungeons? Come on..)

Inb4 "Would you want to spend a ton of time in the same dungeon over and over again?", if at all possible no. But do I care if things go bad or slow? Nope, I'm playing an MMO to spend time, after all. In an always-online environment playing with others you simply can't expect everything to go at your own pace.

While i could understand that its good to look at video - I can learn the dungeon and whatever, but the first time I step in to the dungeon I could have watched tons of videos, or read about this stuff, but that's just theory, and I learn by practice, I learn by doing mistakes. And maybe the video that I watched didn't have a summoner in it along with a bard? When you come to the last boss of Tam Tara HM and you just have to learn there.

I remember my first Stone Vigil HM with a PLD friend, we were both first timers, and the healer and other dps were really nice and explained to us the major points and didnt mind if we wiped because of an error, so no I dont have problems with new players, and I love to learn new stuff. There are dungeons I havent done in ages, and when I go back it's like first time, I need to remember it, so I ask directly.

So, if the answer is simply "go watch a video", then how come all NFL quarterbacks are not playing like Payton Manning? Tom Brady? Drew Brees? Why are not all basketball players as gifted as Michael Jordan? Wide receivers like Jerry Rice? After all, it only takes watching a video once right? Must be tons of video stockpiled on all kinds of gifted athletes. No reason to learn just by doing right?
