Not playing the game.

There's hardly any 'real' gear progression in GW2. Exotic ( normal end-game gear ) to Ascended ( time-gated BiS gear ) is about it unless you're counting gear progression while leveling up. I'm hardly a GW2 fan, as I'm a butt-hurt GW1 fanboy of seven years. But if you're going to bash a game, at least know what you're talking about and not seem like you skimmed over Wiki for a few minutes.

On topic; I hate vertical progression. I hope that not too many more gear-sets are introduced, and instead they focus more on glamours.
Sorry, if you read my post instead of jumping the gun to attack me, I mentioned the grind to legendary not ascended. It took months of grinding dungeons for the average player to have enough gold to afford the weapon. And the worst part of it all? After you finally spend all the time and gold for it, you get a reskinned weapon with a glow which they handily called it a legendary. Yeah sounds like a certain atma-->animus weapon isn't it?

This and the ridiculousness of glamour sets in gw1 was even worse than in gw2. All the suffixes and stuff were for show and I remember the gear at max level was the same as that at level 1. The only reason I played gw1 and the expansions was cause I had a friend playing with me. The effort/reward ratio in both of those games were terrible.

Legendary/Ascended share the same stats in GW2. While you have to clear more content for a Legendary Weapon, you can craft, or farm World Bosses for its Ascended equivalent. If you're specifically talking about the mats for some of the Gifts; why would you ever grind for them? Clear content, and buy what you need. The rest comes naturally ( map completion, dungeon specific Gifts, skill points etc ).

Gear in GW1 was not "the same as that at level 1." Suffixes and Prefixes, yes, but not the inherent armor rating, as it was different for each class and, increased naturally as you leveled-up acquiring better gear until you hit level cap. I'm not following on "the ridiculousness of glamour sets in gw1" thing either. There was no glamour system. There was a ton of different armors that were dyeable and were easily mix-and-matchable. And costumes, of course, but nothing as dumb as what GW2 and FFXIV:ARR has implemented ( few good-looking armor sets, and a handful of glamour options ).

As far as effort/reward; I enjoyed it. It's what kept me playing for those seven years. Dungeons/Missions were fun, end-game content was challenging enough, and PvP was extremely competitive ( for the first five years or so at least until PvE Title-seekers came in ). All with their own unique rewards. But, opinions.
