Yes, but for those jobs (COR, PUP, and DNC) you were able to use oils/powders (or just change to /WHM) to avoid all of the mobs in the areas you had to go. This allowed level 30s to go to those zones and basically sneak to points to get the jobs, which almost everyone did. Here, we don't have those mechanics. I never played WoW, though - but that sounds like it must've upset a few people.

I think the point I'm making is, if they gate NIN behind 2.3, then new players who want to play this job, or even currently people new to 50, cannot get it unless they beat ifrit HM, garuda HM, titan HM, King mog, and Levi HM. There is no precedent for releasing a job with that kind of requirement. It's like them releasing Dancer in FFXI but saying you had to have access to Sky to get it...

ok stop there, the story don't involve ifrit, garuda, titan HM, they are secondary quest. not link to the story quest...
Mog HM was nerfed badly and it's extremely easy to do it now, levi is a big joke, like Ramuh... nothing in the story is hard, i do have a friend that did get him 50 recently and did all the story quest in 1-2 day... wasn't long nor hard...

finally, like said before, you need to do the story quest for get acces at all the progression anyway and more important it's a game mostly focus on the story!

i want to add something that seems to be forget a lot, a new player is new until 50 after it's a player... them goal is to keep the player the longer on the game, make the rogue ninja ask to get the story done until a point serve this purpose, then it's not that weird.

ps: i will not be shocked if i discover that you need to have a certain class to 30 for unlock the rogue.

In FFXI, you couldn't "start" as a DNC. And you had to buy the expansion.
For DRG, you had to advance your rank to have acces to Bostaunieux. And you had to buy the expansion.
And you had to be level 30 so that you can level up back from 1 in a totally different job, which, by the way, took far longer in FFXI that clearing 2.2 in FFXIV.

As of now, you already can't start as "any" class (Gatherers and Crafters, for example), and if you want to play a class in a different city, you have to level enough to travel on foot, on progress the storyline enough to travel by airship.
