Not only they lack integrity in their review, but they also lack the nercessary integrity to accept the criticism coming with it.

Not surprised at all. MMORPG.com is extremely hyper-sensitive to any open criticism of themselves, their articles or anything to do with the site. So, yeah, criticizing them for just about anything = instant warning/ban.

Even when you're not trolling, flaming or whatever, you have to be careful of how you word things over there. It's, by far, one of the most uptight and thin-skinned website staffs I think I've ever come across in all my times on gaming sites. Actually, scratch that. They're definitely the most uptight and thin-skinned. At least that's the case on the forum/moderator side. Some of their columnists are actually pretty stand-up folks, can take the hits and fire right back.

I've been issued warnings for saying absolutely nothing out of line. A moderator read it, completely missed the context of the statement, somehow assumed it to be a troll or flame of some kind and decided it was offensive. I got a warning for it. Trying to correct them on the issue only results in their Community Manager essentially rubber-stamping the warning and confirming it as valid.

Simply said, my arguments were too compelling and solid for them to allow me to state them further. No one likes to have their lack of integrity exposed so evidently, and it takes further integrity to accept it

It could be a nice theme for an editorial, but honestly I'm too busy actually informing my readers to waste my time further exposing an amateurish website that can't even take some solid criticism (or implement readable graphics, but that's a different matter).

I'll just re-review the game myself when the time is right (probably after this round of patches), since my editors greenlighted a regular space for MMORPG re-reviews. Now it's EVE online's turn, then Age of Conan (since they both had very relevant updates that warrant a new review). Probably around the end of september it'll be FFXIV's turn.

Actually, if your website and your columns have a strong readership, I think it would be wise to post something about it. I honestly don't think it would be surprising in the least to most who read it, considering how pretty much everyone I know or have spoken to who visits mmorpg.com has the same opinion of it.

That they would issue you a temp ban over that statement tells me you struck a bit too close to home and so they felt they had to shut you up, as you stated. Though it is odd they didn't remove the post itself.

Just make sure to keep it to supportable or otherwise readily verifiable facts and try to avoid anything that could be interpreted as bashing or flaming, this way no one can dismiss it for just being an angry rant-fest.

I see it this way, they can "shut you up" on their forums. They can't "shut you up" on your own turf. Give 'em a taste of their own medicine, post your thoughts on the review and on their tactics, say all the things you've said on their site and more. Point out the factual errors in the review, call out the peculiar timing of the review, etc.

I don't think it would be a waste of time at all. They seem to have this air of feeling "untouchable" over there at MMORPG.com. I think they need a kick in the ass to knock them back into reality a bit.

Actually the definition of trolling is to post on a forum with the sole intent of stirring controversy.

Posting solid criticism to a review does not really fit into any definition of trolling. Actually, the review itself fits in the definition of trolling more than what anyone posted on the forums.

Its not really an excuse to say that patches always come in the future. If you are playing FFXIV to review it, you had to eventually find out the overhaul was going to happen. Three days before 1.18 and it releases a review on the old system? I am not saying he should give it a better review or anything, but his timing is incredibly off.

All mmorpg.com's ban hammer om me and Abriael shows is that they have no integrity at all, I was calling the reviewer a retard, stupid, daft etc and got banned for trolling, if i should have been banned for anything it should have been for inapropriate laguage, but they banned me for trolling because I was doin what everyone on here has done which is calling the reviewer retarded for this review, but meh guess when my ban is lifted imma have to spam the reviewer with PMs

People, chill out. It's a review, it's done and over with, and at least this author said they'd re-review it again this year. Pretty sure everyone going there and calling the author names, instigating arguments, and just generally trolling is not going to get this game a more favorable review.

What you're doing is akin to a 5 year old stamping their feet and throwing a temper tantrum because Mommy wouldn't buy them candy.

We all can agree that the timing was shoddy. However that score is better than most scores and the game has NOT significantly improved since launch besides the UI lag and other minor additions. It's largely the same game. Reviewers can't keep holding out for these "miracle" patches which is always the "next" patch according to XIV players. If 1.18 fails to meet expectations, everyone's going to claim 1.19 will be the patch that changes everything. It's been this way since beta and the community has been wrong every single time. Try to see that from an unbiased point of view.

This makes you sound like an angry child throwing a tantrum and insulting people because you don't agree with them. That doesn't make you right, and it certainly does a poor job showing you're the one who's not retarded.

The guy wrote a review, get over it already. He didn't insult you either, so be mature and don't insult him cause it really doesn't help your case.
