I realise the majority of the comments on that review which blatently insult the reviewer, spewing ad hominem everywhere, are coming from users on this forum.
It's a sad day to be a member of this game's community.

Again, just more spite from a brain-dead critic who thinks his/her opinion actually means anything, most of the reader comments are a waste of time to read as well. If this guy had any real intelligence, he would have held off on his review until the end of summer, when all the major overhauls have been completed, or in the very least waited until patch 1.18 is released, as his review will be inaccurate then.

Sorry to burst a big bubble here, but gaming journalism isn't a responsibility-free job. If one goes public with poor quality editorial content he deserves the entirety of the flak he gets.
It's actually quite a good day to be a member of this game's community. It's refreshing to see (despite the undesirable presence of some illogical haters that would defend anyone that bashes this game no matter how), many people raising up to call a venomous writer on her misgivings. It should happen more often with the kind of yellow journalism the internet spawned.
Maybe less writers would think themselves untouchable no matter what uneducated crap they write.
the writer did not wait for 1.8 or even 1.9 for their review, and did not even try and make reference to it, article is fail.
Critics who can't take criticism, are both helplessly ironic and in the wrong profession. She wrote an article that was lacking in everything but her own opinion, by doing that she opened herself to attacks on her professionalism and credentials. Roger Ebert can't get away with doing it, why should she? Hopefully next time she submits an article she will take the time to properly research it so she can defend herself from such criticisms. I do feel sorry for her though, trying to be a freelance writer in this day and age is like fighting an uphill battle with very little reward awaiting you once you get to the "top". Writing such articles for sites like mmorpg.com likely isn't doing much to help her career either.
Read some of her other reviews, it's a reoccurring theme. Basically she did the exact same thing with STO, released an odd review just before a major update.

Sadly I think its a good review and pretty accurate at this current time in the games development.
I am so sorry guys, I really am, I know the truth hurts so much and I do understand how a lot of you feel and that you want to defend the game. But dont lie to yourselfs, you know deep down that this review was almost spot on, dont pretend it wasnt. I was also in denial for many months just like many of you are now, some of us just take longer to realize it than others.
Lets hope 1.18 makes things better.

I have no problem with people saying the reviewer did not do their job properly.
The thing I had a problem with, and what the moderators of that site have a problem with, is the name calling and insults not relating to the review. It was like a zoo in there. There is no excuses for some of the things that were being said in there, no matter how you look at it.
This also creates a negative image of the game's fanbase and in turn, the game it self. In the end you can be blaming part of the game's lack of popularity on the players who post things like we saw in that review's comment section.

I know it hurts reading those comments of other peoples experiances with the game. I do understand how you feel and that it somehow bursts your bubble of misconception that everyone loves this game. I was also living in this same dream world untill I woke up one day and tried some other games.I have no problem with people saying the reviewer did not do their job properly.

Thank you for paying 0% attention to what I typed.I know it hurts reading those comments of other peoples experiances with the game. Not once did I say anyone loves the game.
I said that it creates a negative image of the fanbase, which in turn further damages the game's reputation. This will hinder FFXIV from becoming the success SE is working hard to make it in to.
