    A new class would probably be best. However, they may be against adding a fencer class because they would prefer to expand existing Class->Jobs first. In which case GLD(30)BLM(15) + CNJ as a melee/magic DPS class could work quite well.

    A number of GLD skills would need to be changed in function when the RDM job crystal was equipped:
    • Some/all of the damage reduction buffs (sentinel, rampart, aegis, etc) would need to be changed to be more offensively focused.
    • Halone would be changed into an offensive debuff, perhaps an elemental reduction similar to the BRD song.
    • Riot blade would empower the next X spells cast based on the RDMs STR value. This allows the RDM to cast spells while focusing on the STR stat of a melee DPS.
    • Perhaps some additional directional requirements (side/back attacks) would be added to parts of the Halone/Riot combos since they like to do that for melee.
    • Flash would be changed into an offensive AoE. Would also be empowered by Riot so you can either Flash -> Flash -> Flash for basic use or Fast->Riot->Flash for max potential.

    This sets up the basic rotation as:
    Halone combo to apply debuff
    Fast -> Riot -> Spells (x however many)
    Halone combo when debuff drops off.

    RDM would get Fire and/or Blizzard base spells from the BLM to increase the available spells.

    Possible RDM Job specific skills:
    • Offensive DD and Dot spells. Not *required* since BLM could provide Fire/Blizzard and CNJ provides Aero.
    • Enfire (or other weapon enchant) as a limited buff that needs to be reapplied frequently (perhaps under the Riot effect for max potential).
    • Double cast to either double casting speed or have the next spell fire twice in quick succession.
    • Refresh *could* be added, but it would need to be like the current BRD song. It would need to be an AoE buff on a longish cooldown. It has a base cost and drains the RDMs mana pool (like flare). It would apply a debuff to the RDM to reduce his outgoing damage by 20% (ish) for the next 15sec (or so). The long cooldown and penalty keeps them from being "refresh bots", but it allows them to provide an important support role that currently only BRD provides.

    High end gear (Darklight, allagan, etc) would be shared with either the MNK or LNC.

    I would love to see red mage in ffxiv, it was my favourite class in FFXI.
    I think the best would be to introduce them as a DPS class with powerful buffs and debuffs same as in FFXI, with the exclusive ability to apply buff effects to weapons and party member weapons.

    Please SE do it!

    RDM only has, and only ever will need Haste and Refresh. No need for any melee capabilities with en-spells, just slap them on the back row like they're used to.

    If we were to get Red Mage I could only see it stemming from gladiator. "A support DD from a tank, that's crazy talk!" So is turning a DD into a healer... oh, hey Scholar, how goes? The reasoning is simple if you can take off the blinders. Red Mage's trick isn't the magic, it's the swordplay. Sword and shield. Barring making another sword and shield class (which will never happen) that leaves gladiator. It makes sense that the next Job off gladiator won't be another tank, it already has a tank Job why give it another? The idea of the Job system is to explore the possible roles of the classes in question, like DD and healer with arcanist. People keep telling me ideas like warrior/gladiator DDs and lancer tanks are stupid, but what other roles do they have left to explore with future Jobs? Especially when we get the archer's second Job, that's really going to throw people off.

    RDM would be too "hard' for XIV. I mean XI RDM needed 6x pros/shells//hastes casted, several refreshes, para/silences/blind/slows debuffs (depending on mob/pt), Cures, and self buffs like Stoneskin and Blink and maybe some slight dmg with spells. Anything remotely close to this would be just too much work in Yoshi's eyes I'd say. I mean we don't even have to cast shell and pro anymore, it's just one spell now lol.

    FFT: A2's Elementalist renamed Red Mage and put in as spellsword.

    Hybrids will never see challenging endgame. No-one will bring 50% dps and 50% heals. They'd just bring in a normal dps and kill the boss before the hybrids healing would be necessary. We keep seeing this happen, but sadly the deluded fools on this forum refused to pull their heads out of the dirt and look around at how people really play the game.

    Class - Spell Fencer: Melee Caster + debuffer. Combos lead to granting your weapon an element status which reduces resistance of an element for a short time (think elemental wheel sort of debuff). Instant abilities are combo finishers and crowd control ability such as silence short silence for your interrupt. The main class ability gimmick is a instant triple cast yet it's dependent on the weapons element. Having no element bonus on your weapon leads to triple ruin strike (increases unaspected damage for a short time), wind blade strike = triple aero (increases fire damage for a short time), Lightning Blade strike = triple thunder (increases earth damage for a short time). (increases smn/sch, blm, and whm damage)

    Job 1 - Elementalist: Melee debuffer hybrid (like the opposite of a Bard). More focus on strengthening the element down debuff on the enemies. Level 50 Job ability is Elementalshift (refresh the resistance down debuff to another element. Ex: unaspected to fire, fire to earth, earth to unaspected). Other abilities are Elemental Whip types that focus on damage + cc.

    Job 2 - Red Mage: Melee Caster (Damage focus). Combos lead to elemental weapon and a quick (job specific) spells cast. More focus on dealing damage. Level 50 job ability is Double Cast.

    Class Rotation Example
    Single target: Swarmtrike (mutiple hits) > Piercethrough (moves you through the target) > (select element you want to apply if any) > Mana Strike (embued weapon with said element) > "element" strike (applies debuff for 24 seconds)
    Mutliple target: Swarmtrike (mutiple hits) > Piercethrough (moves you through the target) > (select element you want to apply if any) > Mana Strike (embued weapon with said element) > Swallowtail (hits surrounding units and applies debuff for 8 seconds)

    Job Rotation example Elementalist
    ST: Swarmtrike > Piercethrough > (select element you want to apply if any) > Mana Strike > "Element" Strike > "Element" Whip > Elementalshift > "Element" Whip
    MT: Swarmtrike > Piercethrough > (select element you want to apply if any) > Mana Strike > Swallowtail > "Element" Whip > Elementalshift > "Element" Whip

    if it was me, i will break down the legacy of the red mage for make something totally news...

    we can't have in a game a class that can be a melee+caster+healer+dps... that stupid. we need to get ride of stuff for make it balanced in the game, it's sad, but it's like this. red mage in FF games are balanced because it's a solo game. but in mmorpg, they are a pain in the ass to balance.

    if i was yoshida and him team, i will get ride of the melee part, why not use the gun for make it shoot the spell and take out the healing capacity and only leave support capacity like some spell that can increase the healing done by the other class. for make simple a counter part of the bard, but with spell and gun.

    i'm sure i will be flamed because i have said this, but admit it a redmage with a gun can be badass and will be more balanced than anything they can try.

    Stance2: weapon considered Magical damage (also autoattacks.) Potency of magic enhanced. (enables you to use a cross class cure at a moderate potency if required)

    ability similar to Bane to transfer enfeebles to be aoe
