I'm sure it's because I'm missing an astounding 500+ DPS from Garuda's amazing auto-attack damage, right?
Or it's probably because every non-summoner is a qualified and licensed professional of pet DPS.
yes
not because of numbers becuase im glad our dps is great and whatever
but because this isnt what a summoner does at all
its great that we have pets but the problem is, a summoner has the ability to summon pets all over the place and do burst damage
our pets are cool but we only have 3, (two if you include that garuda does everything ifrit does 10x better) thats an issue becuase i dont feel like a summoner at all because of this
Even if he wasn't a SMN, (which John might be as he has lvl 50 ACN) you don't need to be a master at SMN to know that one third of your damage is important. Why even be a SMN at all if you don't care about your Egi being out or not? It just makes you look either lazy or ignorant. Probably both.
Considering that your pet's damage is between 25-30% of your own, if you don't notice its damage and its usefulness then it's a PEBKAC issue.

If anybody remembers this anime show called Zatch bell, it could be a pretty cool inspiration to the Summoner. It's a show where 100 creatures called Mamodos go to earth with a spellbook to find humans that can read their books to activate the spells in them, and they all have one big battle royale to determine the Mamodo king.
My point being, ARR's Summoners could learn a thing or two from the battles in that show, since the show reminds me so much of how Summoners are in ARR, right down to the book.
Also another thing I'd like to are more dynamics between the summoner and the pet, so that there's teamwork involved and it's more like your partners and less like your summon is your pet, I think if it were to be implemented correctly it would be brilliant.

I feel like the job is lackluster, certainly, but I feel like it would be far too much work on the development team's part for the improvement possible. There are other things I'd rather see that time spent on, and if a class or job is to be reworked, I'd rather the entirety of the fundamentals be looked over again, including how the armory system as a whole works.
Especially since the "improvements" these kinds of threads suggest would wreck its current state of being and annoy everyone who currently enjoys smn being a good class. So this will never happen. Also a "pole" on this site is hardly indicative of the general populace since a large amount of players avoid this forum like the plague.
I think my, and a majority of others', main issues are exemplified quite well in Rydia's signature.
Bigger sizes, and useful avatars, would be a massive improvement, instead of pretty much just using 1 egi all the time that's the same size as a doormouse.
FFII through to FFX should be excluded because they are not MMOs. From what I've read about XI, avatars were bigger but certainly not more useful.
