I tend to agree with OP. Getting the needed Alex and materia is bad enough. Why even involve RNG?

Yea, that sort of RNG loss in crafting is one of the things that turned me off in Aion, as well. Socketing items in that game was even worse, where if you failed then all the previous additions to the item were lost as well.

I don't think I'll ever go for my Novus... I'm not sure I could stop myself from quitting the game after 2 fails on it. lol

There's really no need for it in the first place. After all the grind, all the gil, all the TIME sunk into prepping a novus... They decide they need to slap you with an RNG element you have ZERO control over? this is the kind of thing that I expect in F2P games, that sell cash shop items to prevent such an occurence, not in a AAA premium MMO.

How are the prices on Famfrit anyway? Piety IV was at most 20k/each for my Thyrus Novus...
Last time I checked, they were running about $65,000 per materia for piety. However, for something like crit, they're a lot more expensive.

It feels more like you're actually trying to meld your weapon to be the best it can be, if you can just chuck any old materia in and get 100% then the feeling of accomplishment is gone.

Some people make it sound like making money is a lot harder than it is - hell, if you're only focusing on two stats for your Novus, you can sell off most other materia you get from spiritbonding, and transmute all the ones that aren't worth selling. Sure, grade 3 materia isn't worth nearly as much as grade 4, but they build up - and if you can craft your own gear to spiritbond - or have someone in your FC do it for you - you can profit even more. If you put your mind to making money it's actually really easy to bring in the dough - just ask my FC member who's raking in the millions crafting and selling gear on the market board (it's not even high level gear).

Then again, I was lucky enough to get all the Savage Might materia I needed before the prices shot through the roof, from either spiritbonding gear into it or selling materia to buy it, but...the concept hasn't really changed.

Yea please remove that. And please make it so that i get my Novus after the Character creation, oh and also some of that high allagan please. -.- The Rng in the Novus is simple: Getting Novus is easy, only a Grind that can be time consuming, but nothing difficult. So you can be more "hardcore" and max out your stats, which will cost you a bit if you fail some tier IV´s(espcecially det and crit) or you make the easy way and go for a 3rd stat. you wont have a stat maxed out then, so you´ll have a cheaper but weaker Novus. And this 2 differents are a good thing. It givs you and option to decide how much is it worth for you to get the best posible Novus

I've always felt the materia breaking aspect was akin to a F2P mmo, specially those mega grindy Korean ones. ;/

Just because it doesn't break doesn't mean it is handed to you, please let RNGeus rest.

Some people on this thread make it sound like Novus is the only thing they use time/money on, and maybe it is but.... Let's look at it this way... I'm currently trying to gear up and meld my crafting/gathering classes AND meld my novus plus find time to do dungeons, Syrcus Tower, coil T6-9 (still havent beat it), Mog Ex, plus make time to spiritbond AND farm crystals and shards and other crafting mats, and level other classes that I want to try so I'll eventually rinse&repeat relic> atma> novus on them too... Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there is a plethora of things to do in the game right now.. BUT there are also a ton of things grabbing at my coin-purse too. Materia's aren't the only costly or time consuming things for me right now and unlike some folks I don't have lots of time to play. Nor was I smart when the game launched and took the time to level my crafts back when it was cheaper. Nor have I been lucky at getting/making high-selling items to generate income.

If all I was doing was Novus for one job only, I might find time and money for it, but even then probably not. Many other players just got in the game too and are experiencing the same issue as well. A person can only make so much money or farm so many materia's. Eventually they are going to have to buy materia's if they want to get their novus (and/or crafts) done before the next weapon upgrade comes out.

Using 11-19 Tier IV materia makes this accomplishment enough even if it doesn't break.
