Oh give it up. You had your PC exclusive elitist MMO, it couldn't run on most PC's and it flopped.

Those PS3 'limitations' are people of whom a large part, maybe the largest, supported this game and allowed it to become a success in the first place. The game was built with PS3 and low-end PC's in mind to begin with. You obviously have no idea of the consequences of what would be if the object of your agenda was to come to fruition.

Never played on my PC for extended periods because it ran it at 10 fps. Also you're quite wrong. It was developed for PC then ported to ps3.

He's right actually. This game was originally going to be set out for PS3, but since 1.0 was a flop, and you needed a PC from NASA to even run
1.0, they held out. They stated from the get-go that this was also going to be shared by PS3.

The game (A Realm Reborn) was built from the ground up with the intention of releasing it on the Playstation 3. What you call the process matters not.

On a side note, I really wish we could get some stats as to how the player base is distributed across platforms. It would be interesting to see what the community would look like if PS3 users were shunned. Not great, i'm guessing.

It does, actually. The effect of PS3 limitations, are that you have a sizeable community in which to partner up with and play content with. It means que times that aren't 6 hours long. It means the game exists at all really.

If what you want is a game that isn't held back by console limitations, then that means dropping support for that PS4 you saved up for. And no, not 2 or 3 years from now, it would have to be dropped right now. Get it?

What you are pining for, isn't sustainable.
I'm not denying that quite a few people play on PS3. That wasn't my question.

My question was how will the ancient hardware of the ps3 hinder big multiplayer content for the other two systems , because the ps3 can't handle it. Do we make all further content low instance based so it can "work as intended"?

But why is your request exclusive to the PS3? A PC can do much more than a PS4, so why wouldn't both of those consoles be dropped? Then there are no limitations in the type of content SE can bring in.

You are literally making shit up.

You DON'T KNOW how large a proportion of the playerbase is on the PS3, because they haven't released that information. Speaking with so much confidence about something you literally know NOTHING about is not exactly helping your case.

Furthermore, the performance of FFXIV 1.0 is NOT because they aimed at high-end PCs, but instead because of absolutely horrible optimization and asset prioritization practices. The fact that FFXIV 2.0 runs so much better has nothing to do with the existence of the PS3 version and everything to do with the effort the developers put in to fix all the crap (like the flower pots having as many polygons and shader code as player characters) that bogged down the original version.

Finally, the limitations of the PS3 are in large part responsible for a number of the compromises made in the game, including and most certainly not limited to decreased character creation options, the massively increased number of loading screens, compromises to PC animations, the low cap on maximum number of rendered assets at any one point in time (hence the trouble many players have attempting to target monsters like Odin in the middle of massive crowds), and on and on and on. The game can only benefit technically from dropping the third leg that is the PS3 version, because there's so much more you can do when you DON'T have to support an 8-year-old dinosaur of a machine with a piddly 256 MB of RAM (and 256 MB of VRAM, not that that makes things any better).

Fortunately, Squeenix WILL drop the PS3 eventually. Just not now. It will be some time after the first expansion, that much we know for sure. And it makes sense, because at that point the PS3 is such a horribly slow, horribly weak machine that you could get a cheap non-gaming laptop that could run FFXIV better than it. Thank goodness that the people in charge actually have the good sense to realize this.

1.0 failing had nothing to do with it not being on any platform other than the PC. If 1.0 had been on the PS3 as well, it wouldn't have succeeded. You know that, right?

You realize that PS3 limitations prevent a lot of content from being implemented, and not just cause certain content that is implemented to be implemented poorly? Memory limitations are real, and have been cited all over the place by the dev team on a wide range of issues. Maybe you don't care that the game could be better, but it's pretty apparently a lot of other people do care.

No one is complaining about "console limitations", they are complaining about "PS3 limitations". The PS4, technically, sure, limits the game... But not in the way the PS3 does. The PS3 doesn't even have 1 GB of RAM. How many PCs, even the cheapest ones, do you know of that are sold in stores today that have less than 1 GB of RAM?

This is like people asking "Why not make the minimum wage 10,000 dollars an hour?" as a counter-argument to raising the minimum wage at all. It's not worth anyone's time to explain that there is a reasonable middle ground to someone who thinks PS4 limits the game as much as the PS3 does.

MMOs work on money. More money going into the game = Better overall experience.

The PS3 and also LOW-MID RANGE PCs (very important) make up a huge part of the subscriber base.

Rather than complaining that these people are holding back your experience, you need to realise that without their subscription fee you wouldn't have a game to play.
Why not put FFXIV on the 3DS then? I mean, a lot of people have 3DS. They'd get a lot more money that way, right? The quality of the experience means nothing; availability alone will ensure additional subs and more funding? To... What? Make those 3DS graphics pop even more than they already... don't?

Which is ironic, because if they didn't there would be no game, or at least substantially less of one.

PC players should be thanking PS3 players for putting up with what they see as a clearly inferior experience, not trying to get rid of them and make them feel unwelcome.
This really has nothing to do with people disliking people who play on PS3s. I don't know them. I don't have strong feelings about them either way. However, the extreme memory limitations and other factors imposed by supporting the PS3 are obvious and abundant.

Every single post you ever see from the dev team where they complain about making sure they have enough memory for this or that, you can rest assured it's because of the PS3.

Releasing on PS3 at all was undeniably a good thing, but it would be prudent to drop support as soon as enough of the PS3 players have migrated to PS4 and/or PC.
